House approves split tolls on Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge

Recommended Posts

There's a bit of propaganda in the comments from politicians, MTA, etc. If any truck is driving into Brooklyn from Staten Island they paid a toll to get to Staten Island in the first place, they are not "driving into the city for free". They quite literally paid a toll to enter the city from NJ.

This may be a moot point by the time it's implemented because of congestion pricing, but a two way toll would then make it cheaper to enter the city via Hudson River crossings.

On Tues., Dec. 17, the House of Representatives voted to restore the two-way toll as part of a massive $1.4 trillion bipartisan spending package for Fiscal Year 2020. Two days later, the Senate passed the spending package — which also avoided a government shutdown amid the impeachment fight.

According to Rob Gottheim, Nadler’s district director, the plan is for the two-way toll to be back in operation in a year from now.
