The total number of 8 car trains will be much higher than the number needed at ENY. There are likely not going to be THAT many spare cars, especially with the train service increases coming following the substation construction, and the need to increase the spare factor on all the subway lines, but most likely all R179s will be sent to the , and the remaining R160s that are not used for the CBTC (68 cars) and the CBTC on Queens Blvd (256 cars) can be used as spares (which is about 40 cars only). A-A pairs are always a choice. It's easy to turn 5 4 car sets (20 cars, 10 A and 10 B) into 3 5 car sets (15 cars, 6 A and 9 B), a 2 car set (AA) and a 3 car set (ABA). Do this twice - turns 10 4 car sets into 6 5 car sets, two 2 car sets, and two 3 car sets. Lengthen Franklin platforms to 180 ft to run the 3 car sets there, and couple the two 2 car sets together to run as a 4 car set (an ABBAAAAA train). If there are maintenance issues on the 3 car sets, can also run the 2 car sets in their place. This solves the Franklin fleet problem post R68 retirement. More local train service is needed along CPW during the weekends, especially between 59th Street and 86th Street, where these stations are slammed with museum visitors. Keep in mind that track work is being done very often on the 1 line causing more crowding along CPW. In the event that weekend track work is being done on CPW, then the M can go to 96th/2nd Avenue.
