Overnight Essential Bus Service Plan

Recommended Posts

Quill, KB and 100th Street have been covering Yonkers runs because of driver shortages/drivers refusing to do the overnight work. If your buses are not trackable, that's more than likely why. They've been primarily covering the BxM11, but they've also shown up on the BxM1, 2 and 4.

Why hasn't the MTA posted the late-night express bus schedules, such as the X28 and BM2 in Brooklyn?  It's been almost a month!  Do they not have a set schedule?

But at least they posted updates to local bus schedules such as the B15, B8, and B63, which are now running every 10-25 minutes at 4am!!

They have been available on the Brooklyn bus page now for a while https://new.mta.info/schedules/bus/Brooklyn.

You have to click the link where it lists the routes which have the enhanced overnight service. Unfortunately, since this is the MTA we're dealing with here, if you click the link in the list of routes, it gives you the schedule as it was before, without the overnight service. Why they couldn't update the links on the list of routes is beyond me.

I understand that these types of situations happen  (especially since this is overtime), but this is terrible for the people who are using these routes. It gives off the sense that the buses are not running, and people don't want to be waiting at these times for a bus which in their mind might not show up (at least on the Bronx end of the route).

So local buses are filling in for express runs? Or are there express buses at Tuskegee?

It's been a pain in the ass for those riders. It's been just as bad for the Manhattan operators since some have gotten lost along the express routes.

It'd also be a pain in the ass to reprogram the fareboxes and signs back & forth for the buses to be trackable, since those same buses are used for regular service the next day(especially since the entire Orion VII OG Hybrid fleet is OOS at Quill).

None of the Manhattan depots have express buses, so that should answer your question.

Did the 4:22 AM southbound BxM1 bus run yesterday from 256th St? It never showed on the tracker so I just took the BxM2.

You should take whatever comes first. As I said before, the trips from 1AM - 5PM are being done via overtime, so if drivers don't take the work, the trip will be left unfilled, so there will be trips missing. I just want to ensure that the waits aren't insanely long.

Although I do see Quill and KB covering the BxM4 I do know that on my ride yesterday there was two bunching BxM4s when I got on my ride. On Google maps they put the scheduled essential runs on the respective stops and that's the only reason I knew my bus was 20 min late.

This whole thing has been poorly planned. There are express trips that have been missing for weeks during the day time.

That qnd each driver is doing whatever. Some are skipping stops. Others are making them.

It has to do with the way BusTime is set up. For example, when they came up with modified schedules, some lines do not have Sunday service like the QM15, so they created a "modified schedule" that was a "Sunday schedule" that never existed before on that line, so they have to load the data into BusTime. Any sort of modifications and the bus can't be tracked. They ARE however totally trackable on BusTrek unless the bus is NOT IN SERVICE, and even that will show.

With BusTime, if a bus goes off route, or the driver accidentally puts in the wrong code, the bus will not show on BusTime. I have had express buses right in front of me that were not trackable on BusTime because the driver put in the wrong code. The other thing is if they suddenly add service like they did when they added an earlier BxM9 bus for us, the bus won't be trackable immediately until they update the schedule change in BusTime.

You've been making several posts on here about the subway needing to being 24/7 again.... We get it... Much of nobody here disagrees with that.

Bringing up what happened to this poor guy though, is not a reason to have round-the-clock service on the subway.... F*ck Sh*t happens on the subways also.

Enough already.

I guess shootings don't exist on subways at all. Guess that was a myth.

Yeah, safe to say what's going on in the Rockaways during the overnight hours, aren't simply occurring by happenstance..... Somebody (or some group) with enough pull is saying something behind the scenes.....

I can see why. Tonight, is the same deal, although the advisory was posted before the enhanced service was scheduled to begin (as if it was anticipated). I haven't seen any advisories about particular shortages during the day for the Q22, and the trips were being filled up until recently.

No, I think the MTA is relying too much on computers to instruct passengers. The plan could've been handled better with paper schedules and dispatches guiding passengers to safety.
