I took a quick look at it and I would say no. Though it's a good read just to improve yourself in those areas. You never know when it might be needed.

Will this be needed for the C/R exam I wouldn't know as I haven't taken any civil service tests. Maybe an MTA employee can answer this.

Thanks Harry,it couldn't hurt to study them. Best part is that they are free and online,much more convenient then studying from a book.
