Probie92 Posted December 9, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2021 Hello everyone, I am a new bus operator working for MTA Bus company out of a depot in Queens. I just started on my own within the last two weeks. I was involved in an accident today. The bus stop I was going to service was obstructed by another vehicle, so as i was going past the vehicle, the right side of my bus hit the vehicle, taking off the mirror and causing a small crack in the glass of my bus. Nobody was injured, i called command and they sent a dispatcher and a superintendent to the scene. Did all the drug and alcohol test and filled out the paperwork. My concern is, will my probation be extended? Will i be fired? Please advise.

SevenEleven Posted December 9, 2021 Share #3 Posted December 9, 2021 Your first prevent accident is a freebie. You’ll go see the GS about it and they’ll schedule a day for you to go to Zerega for P&E. (Performance and Eval) You spend the day there discussing your accident with other ops and drive around for a bit. After that, you’re good. Don’t sweat it. I had two accidents in the same week on probation. 2 hours ago, Santana04 said: Not for the first incident they will send you to do a class 3 incidents will get you extended Two preventable accidents will get you extended. Incidents are other events on your bus i.e. sick customer and those aren’t held against you.

Thank you. I will be more careful with passing vehicles and obstructed bus stops. I thought I had the space to clear, but I was clearly wrong. I spoke to the union as well and they said something like this WON'T get your probation extended. They did say I will get a counsel. Hopefully I can put this incident behind me and make the 1 year probation without any further incident/accident.
SoSpectacular Posted December 11, 2021 Share #5 Posted December 11, 2021 I smacked my right side mirror into some scaffolding and the convex popped out like two weeks into going out on my own. It was deemed a preventable and I was sent to Zerega for a day. They'll just counsel you. I had about two separate incidents and a non-preventable happen my probie year. Sometimes trouble just finds you.

Was told Thursday by the AGS that 2 accidents is termination The packet the union gave me 3 days ago (my first day at the depot), said 3 accidents is termination.
Express Bus Operator Posted December 17, 2021 Share #7 Posted December 17, 2021 I have an updated information regarding Probationary operators as of December 2021 and going forward. I will either create a new thread or post it in another thread that's related to probation. NEW OPERATATORS before you call Console, I advise you to call your depot UNION Chairman, Vice first! When you call console, the line is being recorded. CYA (Cover Your Ass)....
