duelingdragons Posted November 10, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2008 I'll be coming up in December for the C/R test, but I don't want to pay primo $$ for a hotel, nor do I want to spend $20 on a dirty hostel.. I was thinking of just sleeping in JFK. I'm flying up early Saturday morning and leaving Sunday afternoon... I figured I could just sleep on a bench somewhere in JFK. Haha... any ideas? I don't think I would get bothered because I won't look like a bum, I'll look like a regular traveler with a backpack and such..

Y2Julio Posted November 10, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2008 Costs $2... Not if no one is watching Though on a serious note. Why not come Friday, get a cheap motel and leave Sunday? There is no set time as to when the exam will be given on December 6th. Why risk it?

Forest Glen Posted November 10, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2008 You MAY be able to get away with it at Penn Station. Once I was at Penn Station at 4 a.m. and it was deserted. There were about a dozen people in the entire terminal. However, by the NJ Transit concourse there were people who looked like Amtrak travelers who were sleeping. They weren't bothered by anyone. metsfan Posted November 10, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 10, 2008 I've waited at nyp many times overnight. It isn't fun. To wait in the waiting areas you'll need a ticket. I suggest going to the sites i linked and finding a place that doesnt involve looking like a bum & is far safer than ny train station. If you end up going there anyways don't forget to wander around the platforms, it's one other thing you can do for free. - A

duelingdragons Posted November 10, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted November 10, 2008 There's really no such thing as a cheap motel in NYC.. and if there is, its probably a tenemant. There's no dress code for the test, is there? I mean, jeans is good right? Also, its usually in the morning time, right? I'm actually flying in late Friday night, I just checked. duelingdragons Posted November 10, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted November 10, 2008 Its hard to imagine that they would have the test late on a Saturday... Anyone know how long it is? There's a big football game that I don't want to miss that starts at 3:30 that Saturday. Lol... =)

Radioguy Posted November 11, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 11, 2008 Hostels are popular, but the films may have put a damper on that.

Way better than sleeping in the subway, unless you enjoy the adventure of risk:p

metsfan Posted November 11, 2008 Share #17 Posted November 11, 2008 Many years ago i fell asleep on a bus that went to CS depot. They left me alone & i woke up confused at 2 am & walked over to the . Some of the people working at the depot chuckled at me and asked if i had pleasant dreams. :D Now, if you fall asleep on a train that gets parked in a yard, you might want to think about calling MTA if you got a cell phone and asking them to come get you. They usually check the train though. - A

Shortline Bus Posted December 5, 2008 Share #21 Posted December 5, 2008 Off topic. I never could understand why NYC cant have low cost motels like "Motel 6' " "econo lodge' etc at least in the outerboros. Places like around Yankee Stadium and Coney Island for instance would be perfect locations for them. As far as a 'cheap hotel' at or in Manhattan next to impossible. Only option maybe is to sleep at those so called 'wet sheet' motels where rooms are available for short stay such as St Marks hotel in East Village, a few in Bushwick Brooklyn near the "L" line. I think it's $50 for 2-3 hour stay. Negative about those 'hot sheet' motels is that majority of the customers are either drug dealers/users, prostutuies, or male/female couple meeting at a nearby bar or club staying for 'one night stands' aka :o'adult fun.'
