BM5 via Woodhaven Posted March 29, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2022 (edited) After a three year hiatus due to the pandemic, the NYC Half Marathon occurred on March 20th. With the event comes a lot of bus detours in Manhattan, with some on the Lower East Side, but the vast majority in Midtown and the Upper East Side / West Side. Basically, anything that regularly runs north-south or crosstown east of 8th Avenue, on Central Park West, or between 34th and 79th Streets needed to be rerouted. LFS HEV M42 via 34th Street & 34th Street Bus Action One of these detours on the M42 involved a return of the former M16 crosstown service pattern to Circle Line Pier. It was posted on the MTA site that the M16 would have gone to/from Waterside Plaza via 34th Street due to the marathon, but they were ending at the 34th Street Ferry Terminal instead, at least in the afternoon. That would have exactly replicated the old M16, which was truncated to Port Authority Bus Terminal in 1995. That route today is the M34A SBS route, which it was relabeled to in 2013. You can check that trip below, which includes rolling footage of detour buses along 34th Street: M15, M101, M102, M103 via 10th/Amsterdam Avenues, Q32 via Lincoln Center All articulated local bus , Staten Island express, Q32, M5 and M7 routes were diverted onto 10th/Amsterdam Avenues northbound, while all the other routes took 8th Avenue to Columbus Circle, then went up Broadway to Amsterdam Avenue, and went via 81st Street/ 79th Street Transverse. Southbound buses all took 9th/Columbus Avenue from 79th Street to 34th Street. This meant that you had detours such as the M15 Local/SBS operating via 10th Avenue instead of 1st Avenue!
