Trainspotter Posted September 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2007 MTA LIRR Service Alternative During New York Taxi Workers Alliance Work Stoppage The MTA Long Island Rail Road advises customers to consider the LIRR, buses or subways as alternatives during the 48-hour work stoppage by the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, since fewer taxis may be operating during that period. Customers traveling to Kennedy Airport are also reminded of the AirTrain JFK option. AirTrain JFK service, which operates between Jamaica Station and JFK airport may be accessed at Penn Station via the LIRR to Jamaica. Off peak LIRR tickets between Penn Station and Jamaica (Zone 1 to 3) cost $5.00 when purchased at the ticket window or from a ticket selling machine. The peak fare is $7.00. AirTrain JFK tickets cost an additional $5.00. For additional information, customers may contact the LIRR's 24-hour Travel Information Center in New York City at 718-217-LIRR, in Nassau County at 516-822-LIRR or in Suffolk County at 631-231-LIRR. The Travel Information Center's TDD telephone number for the hearing impaired is 718-558-3022. Customers may also consult the LIRR's website at http://www.mta.info.
