Highlights of MTA's budget cuts

Here are some of the highlights of the MTA's proposed 2009 budget cuts:

 

* Shorten the G line so it ends at Court Square at all times - it currently runs to 71st Ave./Forest Hills on evenings, nights and weekends.

* Increase weekend intervals from eight to 10 minutes on the A D E F G J M N Q and R lines.

* Increase intervals from 20 to 30 minutes on all trains running between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

* Eliminate the W train. The Q would be extended from midtown to Astoria, and the N would run local north of Canal St. to replace the W.

* Eliminate the Z train and shorten M rush-hour service to Broad St. in Manhattan - it now runs to Brooklyn's Bay Parkway.

* Eliminate the B23, B37, B39, Bx14, Bx34, M6, M8, M18, M27, Q84, QM22, QM23, BxM7B, X25, and X32 bus routes.

* Discontinue weekend service on the B2, B4, B7, B16, B24, B48, B57, B65, B69, B71, B75, Bx8 (Sunday only), Bx18, Bx20, Bx33, M21, M22, M50, Q14, Q31, Q76, Q79, S42, S54, S57, S60, S76, X27 and X28 bus routes.

* Discontinue weekday service on the B25, B51, B75, Bx4, Bx20, M10, M30, Q26, Q56, Q74 and Q75 routes.

* Discontinue overnight service on the B7, B14, B31, B45, B48, B57, B64, B65, B67, B77, Bx10, M1, M2, M16, M22, M23, M42, M50, M66, M79, M96, M102, M103, M104 and Q30 routes.

* Increase express bus fares to $7.50 from $5.

* Raise the Access-A-Ride fare to make it twice the subway base fare - from $2 to $4, based on current prices.

* Eliminate the station customer assistants, who help riders outside toll booths. This would cut 596 positions.

* Close 29 staffed booths in stations that have more than one full-time booth. Reduce staffing to part-time in 13 additional booths.

* Impose tighter controls on E-ZPass account balances on MTA bridges and tunnels. That will result in more drivers turned away at toll gates and longer lines.

* Eliminate rebates for Rockaway, Queens, residents who pay tolls at the Cross Bay Bridge.

* Raise booze, soda and snack prices on Metro-North Rail Road to tie them to the consumer price index.

* Cancel a program to allow Metro-North riders to buy tickets on board with credit and debit cards.

* Eliminate the Metro-North toll-free customer information center.

* Eliminate 11 Metro-North train car cleaning positions.

Eliminate the BxM7B? It only runs FOUR TIMES A DAY. How much money is that really costing them? And the Bx34? I can think of more useless Bronx routes than that. Like the Bx20. That is so useless.

In addition, if you eliminate Bx10 service overnight, what about home health care workers in Riverdale working late shifts who need to get home to Norwood?

Same for hospital nurses who ride the M66 and M30. They work overnight shifts, and arrive on overnight, weekday and weekend buses.

Looks the like the B75 and the B51 are eliminated; it says discontinued for weekends and weekdays (doesnt leave much time, does it?), I'm upset about the B71, cause that's my bus. How can they eliminate the late night B31 bus? It's the only bus that goes to Gerristen Beach, and do you really want people walking that last at night? This is ridiculous, some of these bus routes are vital, and now they're forcing passangers to the subway which now have greater headways.

The Q74 is sometimes useful at night when you wanna get to the E or F but Parsons & Jamaica is slammed, which is typical during the PM rush hour. It runs what, every 20 minutes as is...

They have to deal with the Bronx Science Parent's Association when they try to get rid of the X32. The students themselves won't do much, but the parents would have A LOT to say.

 

Eliminating the X32 will basically make it impossible for kids in southern Queens to attend Bronx Science.

I was wondering that to, I say no, because since the (Q) doesn't need the express track on 57th street to terminate anymore, the Astortia bound trains can use the express and local tracks, keeping the (Q) on the express track from 42nd to 57th.

BxM7B: During limited summer one, BxM7A should be expanded to City Island to replace BxM7B.

 

M6: Not very good idea to elimate. This bus is popular and goes through major attraction. If M1 South Ferry did not initate on Weekend, how would people gets to downtown.

 

M8: Not very good idea. I remember when there was Gay Parade longtime, no one did not like when M8 terminated at Waverly Place.

M21 Eastbound is so slow, so it should left alone.

 

B51: Not very good idea because passengers with disables and seniors depend on it. Plus I seen many Chinatown folks waiting for weekday B51 on Weekends, not knowing B51 is Weekday Only.

 

X25: This agree. X90 should add stop at 2nd Av & 42nd St and 1st Av & 42nd St.

 

Access-A-Ride

Wheelchair and walker cannot afford to paid $4.

 

 

Cutting job for MTA employees are worst idea by MTA.

I could imiginate maybe MTA might closed part time booth at 81st St-Museum could be cut, and that could be protest between Natural History.

It could be crime might go up again.

Im sorry the Access A Ride Passengers have to pay their share fare I drive for Access A Ride and there are Passengers that get over on the (MTA) which is a CODE 20 NON PAYMENT of the fare and there are working and able bodied people who can afford it dont be fooled

 

and might I add if for any reason they forget to pay and you forget to call a code 20 you the driver will be held responsible for their fare and I had that happen to me once going back and forth with this passenger as to why I was late and she wasn't even assigned to me I was doin a favor for the dispatcher

 

why Spare one if thats the case spare all

Also does MaBSTOA allows the MTA to take down service =\

 

I feel bad for the M18, and whats wrong with the M14??

No, the (Q) would probably serve Astoria until Phase 1 and/or 2 is done in the Second Ave. Subway. The (Q) would again be a Queens fella if it happens.

 

 

maybe the (Q) could serve as Astoria Express, while the (N) is Local

That would be a wasted and failed when they first did it on the (W). The (N)(Q) will serve all stops in Astoria the way it should be.

 

Definitely....the express isn't needed in Astoria because it's not that long of a run and a good amount of people get off at stops before Astoria Blvd.
