Marco927 Posted September 29, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2022 Before #7 train was extended to Flushing in 1928, was LIRR the only way to travel between Flushing and Manhattan? How much was the fare? Did LIRR charge passengers Peak fares during rush hours? When the #7 train was extended to Flushing and charging only 5 cents, did LIRR lose a lot of business to the subway?
trainfan22 Posted September 30, 2022 Share #2 Posted September 30, 2022 (edited) I don't think your last question can be realistically answered, as nobody on here was alive in 1928. IIRC from posts from subway historians, Queens was the boonies when the Flushing line first opened. The line caused a lot of development around it. Here's a photo from back then Edited September 30, 2022 by trainfan22
traildriver Posted October 3, 2022 Share #3 Posted October 3, 2022 (edited) Besides the LIRR, IIRC, there were also some trolley car lines from Manhattan and Brooklyn that extended to Flushing. I am not sure of the dates of those operations, however... Here's a wiki article on some... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_streetcar_lines_in_Queens Edited October 3, 2022 by traildriver
