In 1991, the R-32s were just out of GOH and looking good.

It looked very cleaned after a GOH happened between 1987 and 1989 and very clean but not anymore since its dirty but the two pairs of R32 3352-3353 will go to the Museum and MTA will clean these R32 pairs 3352-3353 so it would look good and clean.

The R32 should have retired back in 1991. It's old and disgusting.

They cant just retire the R32s that quickly, it was here since 63, and the GOH fixed it up for a few more years

Now if u find the R32s "f"ed up well think again, look at the R40Slopes in the late 70s early 80s prior to the General OverHaul:

Now the R40S needs to get out! :)

The 32's should have been the last to go, because of the solid stainless steel construction, which is in much better condition that the 40-44's.

The reason they are in "worse condition' is because they apparently let them go, as they do when cars are about to go. Why they kept up the other classes instead, mechanically, even though they structurally were in worse condition (rust, leaks), I do not know.

:D, don't retire the brightliners... I'll miss them!!!

Dude, just get over with it... the trains have to go anyways. They could give them a SMS or another GOH, but if they do that, they could just get some new cars and retire them. It will be too costly to maintain them. And again, it is not about what RAILFANNERS think, it is about what the GENERAL POPULATION thinks.

Well, Eric B got me there... The R-32 should be the last either ways! The R-40's and R-42's are so darn uncomfy to ride, feel the seat will fall out of the train anytime... And R-38, very dark inside... Why the R-32, the awesome-liners?

The R32 will be the first train to retire then the R32 then the R40 then the R40M and The R42 will retire last. The R32 also has problems like the R38/R40/R42 has.

Well after the G.O.H between 1987 and 1989 the R40 looked cleaned after they got their G.O.H

I think the R32 should retire first becaue it older and dirter then the R40.

The R32 will still retire in 2009 and G.O.H fixed up the R32 back in 1980's between 1987-1989.

These photos were taken back in the 1970's and early 1980's.

The era of widespread graffiti and poor car maintenance.

NYC subway had graffiti in the 1970's and 1980's and all car were very dirty and rusty but then in 1984 the G.O.H strated and repaint and clean the subway cars and rebuilt them. In the summer of 1989 NYC subway Graffiti ended and all the subway car were clean even it it was not rebuilt yet when they were going to rebuilt anytime soon.

The R10 was repainted green and cleaned up.

The R16 and R17 was repainted red and cleaned up.

The R27/R30/R30A was repainted red and overhauld.

The R33ML/R33WF/R36ML/R36WF was repainted red and rebuilt between 1984-1989 and cleaned up.

Some R33ML had color green between 1985-1989 until it was repainted red and rebuilt.

The R32/R38/R40/R40M/R42 was repainted sliver only and blue doors/stripes were removed and they were rebuilt between 1987-1989 and cleaned up.

The R44/SIRR44/R46 were cleaned up between 1984-1989 then in late 1989 the (MTA) began to rebuilt the R44/SIR-R44/R46 and they were rebuilt between 1989-1992 and they repainted sliver only and removed blue stripes and the rollsigns were removed and they put LCD screen sign expect for the SIR-R44.

That's what the (MTA) repainted and cleaned the subway cars because they were rebuilt. For some reason these subway cars were rebuilt back then was because it was in poor condition, falling apart, dirty and was worst. The R68/R68A did replace the R10 and R16. The R62/R62A replaced the R12/R14/R15/R17/R21/R22. G.O.H happen between 1984-1992.
