JAzumah Posted July 30 Share #1 Posted July 30 Can New York City Transit actually do day of week scheduling or would every Friday have to be a "holiday"? I spoke to someone at another agency and they said they had to reprogram their system to handle day of week scheduling. I am not going to let the MTA take the SIM23 and SIM24 hostage over congestion pricing.

If the MTA went to day of week scheduling, it could reduce the number of empty buses on Fridays enough to avoid any cuts on the SIM23 and SIM24. To be clear, they are proposing adding back the hour gap in service during rush hour because of "congestion pricing" cuts.

I heard a rumbling that wanted to try Monday-only and Friday-only schedules for some subway lines, but TWU shot it down.
checkmatechamp13 Posted August 2 Share #5 Posted August 2 Isn't the MTA getting reimbursed for the SIM23/24 anyway? (Since they took it over in 2022) I'm not sure why they're cutting that to begin with. But yes, day-of-week scheduling definitely makes sense. They already do it on the railroads.

The TWU likely has a reason for that, but the MTA can solve those issues in creative ways.

That would most certainly lead to a systematic reprogramming, which I'd be very much worried about... The problem is that some employers mandate in person days on a Monday or Friday and allow mid week remote days. Not all employers are hybrid and those that are do not have a coordinated remote versus in person schedule.
