BklynBusMan08 Posted January 2, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2009 Hey folks. I was driving back from Syracuse to NYC Tuesday, and spotted two brand new R160 trains... car numbers 9289 and 9292. The trains were travelling along I-81, somewhere between Binghamton, NY and Scranton, PA. I'm guessing they were headed toward the George Washington Bridge and NYC. I managed to take several shots, and avoided crashing the car at the same time! You can get a much bigger version of each photo, by clicking here. MTR Admiralty Posted January 2, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2009 Great contribution! We should expect 9288-9292 to be testing in one or two weeks. The E will be flooded with R160s as time progresses this year.

MTR Admiralty Posted January 2, 2009 Share #15 Posted January 2, 2009 possibly the line will have alot of R160's once the R42's start to retire When all the R160s that are slated to go to Jamaica Yard are delivered, they will fill up the , remaining sets will run on the . It is said that 430 cars will go to Jamaica Yd.: 360 R160A Option 1 Order cars 70 R160B Option 1 Order cars The E runs 26 trains, so 260 R160 cars will be used on the E. The remaining 170 cars will go to the F, forming 17 trains.
Amtrak7 Posted January 3, 2009 Share #16 Posted January 3, 2009 Interesting. I have never seen pictures of shipping R160s outside of the GWB and trucking them to 207th from the GWB. If all new cars are delivered to 207, then how come no-one ever sees them deadhead to Jamaica, CI, etc?

RokuSix Posted January 3, 2009 Share #19 Posted January 3, 2009 It is, indeed, an oversize load. That's gotta be fascinating, though...driving down the road, and then seeing a subway car!
mark1447 Posted January 3, 2009 Share #20 Posted January 3, 2009 These will most likely head to fill the E, then the F. I doubt the R is getting them. so this means ether the (F)s R46 will run on the or or possiably the if it isnt transferred to CI,
MTR Admiralty Posted January 7, 2009 Share #21 Posted January 7, 2009 so this means ether the (F)s R46 will run on the or or possiably the if it isnt transferred to CI, To be honest, we really do not know yet. I speculate if there extra R46s floating around, they may be stored at Jamaica Yard for service increases or to Pitkin/207 to retire the Mods and R42s. We really don't know. Bdwy Line C/R Posted May 7, 2009 Share #25 Posted May 7, 2009 I would have been seriously pissed off having an escort riding my ass like that van in the pixs. Bad enuff to have to drive an oversize load with all the problems that incurs, but to have worry about where your escort is since you can't see the van would make me nuts. Someone should talk to that driver about escort protocol.
