R160A-1 is four car sets and R160A-2 are five car sets, right. Does that really matter if I don't use that? I know the shorter R160A's run on the and the longer ones run on the and eventually. Okay I'll use the R160A-1 and R160A-2 distinction from now on.

TexasDART Posted January 5, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2009 Wow, that is a really simplified fleet, looking at what they're coming from. I would think that fleet reduction would really help in cutting costs.

Amtrak7 Posted January 5, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 5, 2009 I thought the(J) was all R160. By the yard roster, there are 5 sets of R42's left. Do they run on or R179 will only simplify the fleet further.

Do they run on or R179 will only simplify the fleet further. yeah, R42s still run on the J/Z. this is how the car assignment should look like by 2010: : R44s, R46s, and maybe R68s ( R68/68As : R46s and maybe R44s and/or R68s : R68s : R160s : R160s and R46s : R68/68As : R160As : R143s and R160As : R160As : R160s : R160s : R46s and maybe R160s : R46s : R160s : R160s the R179s will probably go on the B and D and R68s sent to Pitkin to replace the R44s. Novabus 5000 Posted January 5, 2009 Share #11 Posted January 5, 2009 179s will be 75 ft. the r44 is 75 ft so the 179s will replace the 44s
FlushingExpress Posted January 5, 2009 Share #12 Posted January 5, 2009 i thought that the R179 was a rumor? no, the R179s will be ordered because the R44s are set to retire in 2011-2013. the R188s are just rumors because they are completely useless right now. MTR Admiralty Posted January 7, 2009 Share #14 Posted January 7, 2009 I thought the(J) was all R160. By the yard roster, there are 5 sets of R42's left. Do they run on or R179 will only simplify the fleet further. Yes, they run on the J and Z. Usually on the Z, sometimes the R42 will show up on the J every now and then. They will stay until the R160A Option Order 2 cars arrive. Then the remaining R42 will retire. the R179s will probably go on the B and D and R68s sent to Pitkin to replace the R44s. Why would the R179s go to the B and D? Remember, the B is based out of Coney Island Yard and the D is based out of Concourse Yard. I believe the base order of the R179 will go to the A. The reason being is that the A currently runs 208 R44s, the base order of the R179s comprises of 208 cars, no? So it would fit directly. I don't think they should move trains around all over again. But yes, I am pretty sure some R46s will turn up at Pitkin. i thought that the R179 was a rumor? It was, however it seems though that it is more definite. no, the R179s will be ordered because the R44s are set to retire in 2011-2013. the R188s are just rumors because they are completely useless right now. I can't be exact with your retirement date of 2011-2013, we have to have to be sure that the cars will be ordered, delivered, tested and placed in service in a timely matter before we could give retirement dates of the R44s. TerrapinStation Posted January 7, 2009 Share #15 Posted January 7, 2009 179s will be 75 ft. the r44 is 75 ft so the 179s will replace the 44s If they end up being 75', they will have taken a lot more than that into consideration...
BroadwayBuffer Posted January 7, 2009 Share #16 Posted January 7, 2009 As I believe that this how the may end up after all the R-32, R-38, R-40, R-40M and R-42 are sadly gone... will consist of R-160 and R-44. ( will consist fully R-68. will consist of R-160 and R-68. will consist of few R-160 and R-68. will be all R-160. will consist of R-46 and R-160. will consist of R-46 and R-160. will consist of R-44. will be all R-160. will consist of R-143 and R-160. will be all R-160. will be all R-160, maybe few R-68. will consist of R-68 and R-160. will be all R-46. BMT/IND Fleet: R-44 R-46 R-68/68A R-143 R-160/160A/160B It's really too early to make almost any predictions as to how things will look by 2010 or "when all SMEEs are retired". The R-46s may not all remain at Jamaica. The may not get R-68/As. The , , or may not see any R-160s. There is not much to go on to make that may predictions right now. A few months ago, who thought the , much less the , would ever see R-40 slants before they retire (a couple mixed with R-40Ms)? Or the & having mixed trains of R-42s & R-40M's? All (at least most) bets are off.

Don't forget that the R160 Option 2 orders are coming and the R179s will be ordered. In conjunction, there are reports that a third optional order of the R160s will be ordered. We really don't know what will happen in the near future... in fact, we can't be too sure what will happen A YEAR FROM NOW.
