metsfan Posted January 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2009 Station Advisory Anderson Street Station Building Destroyed by Fire During the early morning hours of Saturday, January 10, the Anderson Street station building was destroyed by fire. Pascack Valley Line rail service has resumed normal operation. However, customers who normally board at Anderson Street should be aware of the following: Train service: All trains will stop at Anderson Street as scheduled. The platforms are accessible to customers. Ticketing: The ticket vending machine is out of service until further notice. Customers boarding at Anderson Street may buy one-way and round-trip tickets aboard the train without incurring the $5 penalty. Monthly passes may be purchased at Hoboken, Secaucus or New York. Safety: Temporary fencing and barricades have been erected for your safety. Please follow all posted signs. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. We would like to extend our gratitude to the firefighters from Hackensack and surrounding communities, as well as the police and emergency personnel who responded. We know that many of you felt a strong connection with the historic structure--the second oldest building owned by NJ TRANSIT. We share your sense of loss. Please be assured that we will share more information as it becomes available. If you have immediate questions, please contact NJ TRANSIT Customer Service at (973) 275-5555. --- This is very sad. Apparently the tanks used to house heating propane exploded after a fire started. As i understand there are many natural gas & propane systems that are used to heat various structures along a ROW including station buildings and worker shelters and the like. I have a feeling (NJT), , and amtrak will be stepping up safety inspections on these systems in light of this tragic loss. MTR Admiralty Posted January 15, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 15, 2009 That qualifies as arson. I meant the intentional use of arson. Like the deliberate act as opposed to an accident.
