Unchanged Subway Lines

I'm pretty sure that most of us have noticed that some of the NYC have changed permanently, like the (5) rush-hour service used to terminate at Wakefield-241 St, the (B) and (D) used to run on the Brighton line, (but not at the same time) and the (W) used to go to Coney Island. Are there any lines that never really had changes (not including the weekend service changes)?

Please comment.

Times Square Shuttle hasn't changed for years, IIRC.

The 4 hasn't changed much.

(7) <7> haven't changed much, other than possibly the times when express service ran.

Possibly the (L) ?

The (V) hasn't changed at all, unless you count the time after 9/11 when it temporarily ran to Euclid Avenue.

Yeah, the 7 and the L obviously didn't change.

The R hasn't change much.

That was only 9-11. For generally from 1987-present the R route is more or less the same.

The hasn't changed at all, unless you count the time after 9/11 when it temporarily ran to Euclid Avenue.

1. the (V) has only been in service for seven years

2. it was the chambers street fire, not 9/11, that extended the (V) to Euclid Avenue

3. that extension lasted just 10 days

4. 9/11 delayed the (V)'s debut by three months

The (2) used to end at New Lots Avenue.

The (3) and (4) used to end at Brooklyn College.

The (5) used to end at Utica Avenue.

The (5) and (6) used to end at South Ferry.

The ( used to go to Coney Island- via West End, and terminated at 57 Street, 6 Ave.

The (C) used to end at Bedford Park Blvd in the Bronx, and the World Trade Center.

The (D) used to go through Brighton in Brooklyn.

The (E) used to end in the Rockaways.

The (F) went through the 53rd Street tunnel.

The (G) used to 71 Ave.* and Church Street

The (J) used to end at 168 Street in Queens.

The (M) used to end in Coney Island via the Brighton Line

The (N) used to end at 57 Street or 71 Ave. in Queens

The (Q) now is on it's original route, but used to terminate at Brighton Beach

The (R) used to end at Ditmars Blvd in Queens

The <R> used to go from 95 Street to Chambers Street.

* The (G) Still goes to 71 Ave, but that may soon end.

This information is based on the last 35 years of service (1974-2009.) We had the (H) , (K) , (JFK) , (V) , (W) , and (Z) lines as well as other Shuttles.

Oh yea, I remember seeing an old sign from someone's pic here of Nevins Street. The sign showed the 4 going to Atlantic Avenue during a certain time, New Lots Avenue during late nights. Utica during non-peak.

the (1) had skip-stop service with the (9) from 1989-2005. the (A) also had plenty of service changes during the past 35 years.

Frankie Shuttle got shutdown for a year. It also lost Dean Street in the early 1990s.

During that time they also built the transfer to the (2) (3) (4) (5) line btn Franklin & Bot. Garden

Oh yea, I remember seeing an old sign from someone's pic here of Nevins Street. The sign showed the 4 going to Atlantic Avenue during a certain time, New Lots Avenue during late nights. Utica during non-peak.

Hmm...before the switch (4) & (5) would terminate at Atlantic Ave btn rush hours. During the evening rush (4) terminated at Flatbush (5) went to Utica. As the eve rush wound down a few (4)s & (5)s ran to New Lots and then to the yard for layup. (4) went to Flatbush normally along with the (3) which stopped running after 10PM from 145 in Manh. The (2) was terminating at New Lots and ran 24/7.

(4) & (5) still run a coupla trains to New Lots today in the latter part of the eve rush for layup over night or over the weekend.

Also after 9/11, 1 trains were extended to New Lots Avenue to replace the 3 which terminated at 14 St at the time.

*In my best Barry White voice* Sho you right. And the service was much improved. The TA didn't want any falloff in service on the (1) in Manh so of course they had to add more trains for the extended run. It was weird seeing headways of 3-4 mins on the New Lots line and even less at Franklin Ave where the (2) joined up

1. For a while about 25-30 years ago, the (6) went to Atlantic Av.

2. Also, even though the (Z) is young compared to most other lines (EXCEPT the (V) & (W) ) it had some changes. It used to go to 168 St-Jamaica Av with the (J) , but that was around the time when the (Z) first came out, and Jamaica Center wasn't built yet. When the Williamsburg Bridge was closed, skip-stop service started at Eastern Pkwy-Bway Junction towards Queens.

3. I rememberthe time when the (M) midday last stop was 9 Av, and rush hour service still went to Bay Pkwy.

4. I remember when the (B) had terminals in all boroughs (except SI duh) Bedford Pk Blvd (Bronx), Washington Hts-168 St (Manhattan), 21 St-Queensbridge (Queens), and Coney Island (Brooklyn via West End)
