A Yeshiva Bus rear ended a city bus and injured a dozen passengers yesterday after apparently losing control on a icy road in Brooklyn, officials said. The school bus from the Yeshiva skidded into an idle B11 at 49th St. and 14th Avenue. The road was apparently slick with ice.

A yeshiva bus rear-ended a city bus and injured a dozen passengers Tuesday after apparently losing control on an icy road in Brooklyn, officials said.

 

The school bus from the Yeshiva Beth Hillel skidded into an idle B11 at 49th St. in Borough Park, fire and transit officials said. The road appeared to be slick with ice, witnesses said.

 

David Levog, 38, an official at the school, said there were 15 students aboard the school bus. They were not hurt, he said. "He was going extremely slow," Levog said of the driver. "It was just extremely icy."

 

The city bus was at a red light at 14th Ave. shortly before 7 a.m. when the school bus hit it, NYC Transit officials said,

 

"The whole road is a sheet of ice," said Donald Santos, 52, of Sunset Park. "It could have been a lot worse."

 

Twelve passengers on the city bus sustained minor injuries, transit officials said, and 10 of them were taken to Maimonides Medical Center. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

I saw the newspaper article with a photo of a person being taken out of the city bus on a stretcher. The article said the people on the school bus were not hurt but people on the city bus were hurt.

At least everyone made it out okay. I can't possibly see how this is charged as a preventable accident to the B/O; the bus was stopped for a red light and hit from behind.

The driver will not tell them what the speedometer reading was at the time of the crash.
