Race Harley Posted February 8, 2009 Share #26 Posted February 8, 2009 You don't NEED a new TV for DTV. All you need is a converter box which have been advertised like crazy on TV along with the federal program of providing coupons so that consumers with low income can get them for free. SMH. What might seem like a simple thing to most, isn't.

Harry Posted February 13, 2009 Share #28 Posted February 13, 2009 Thread name corrected to DTV from HDTV being that the change has nothing to do with high definition television and everything to do with digital television.

Harry Posted February 13, 2009 Share #30 Posted February 13, 2009 To do a little correction...Some parts are dealing with HDTV but still DTV is the more General, HDTV is just a specific right? No it has nothing to do with HDTV. HDTV requires a seperate subscription with your local cable/satellite company and an HDTV capable television. It's all about digital television signal, nothing more, nothing less.

Harry Posted February 13, 2009 Share #32 Posted February 13, 2009 I don't want to offend you but HDTV does not require a separate subscription... Yes it does but not in the sense of a seperate bill. It's an add-on with any cable/satellite provider with a seperate HDTV receiver. I have DirecTV and you need to subscribe to an HDTV plan with an HDTV capable receiver and an HD capable television. Only if it is about Converter Boxes, then it has nothing to do with HDTV... Digital TV has two fixes: Converter Box or HDTV (few more modern SDTV and EDTV may suppot but hard to tell which model... A HDTV may have a built in digital tuner but no matter how you slice it, it still will not be High Definition TV period.

Y2Julio Posted February 13, 2009 Share #35 Posted February 13, 2009 HDTV are TVs that are capable of displaying High Def resolutions: 720p, 1080i and 1080p. DTV is Digital TV, it's just digital signals. The USA is switching from Analog TV to Digital TV. Watch this video http://media.myfoxtampabay.com/DTV/hdtvdtv.html it explains the difference between HDTV and DTV.
