CSI actor attacked on the A line

NEW YORK - “CSI” actor Gerald McCullouch found himself at the center of his own personal crime scene, when he was attacked on a New York subway recently, according to The New York Daily News’ Rush & Molloy.

 

McCullouch, who plays Bobby Dawson on the hit CBS show, had just gotten off a plane from Los Angeles and was riding the A train when a man allegedly attacked him with a knife.

 

“It was about 2 AM… The train was pulling into the Utica Blvd. station when I noticed someone cross in front of me,” McCullouch told Rush & Molloy. “Just as the doors opened, he reached for [my] laptop.”

 

But what the alleged assailant didn’t know was besides being an actor, McCullouch is also an experienced boxer.

 

“I guess he thought he’d grab it and dash out the door, but I gave him a body shot to the chest,” the actor continued. “That’s when he pulled a kitchen knife out of a plastic bag. This thing must have had a blade 10 inches long. The other passengers started running out the door into the next car.”

 

Not only did McCullouch’s boxing experience help him, but also apparently so did a moment of luck.

 

“I still had my headphones on with music blaring. I yelled at the top of my lungs, ‘Get the [expletive] away from me!’ That’s when the knife came down into my back. I don’t know whether he lost his grip or what, but the blade didn’t penetrate my leather jacket,” he added. “We were in each other’s face. I think I punched him again as the doors closed and the train started leaving the station. I’m watching MTA workers on the platform looking in. I thought, ‘Great, now I’m alone in this car with him.’”

 

At that point, the actor said the train began to pull away with just McCullouch and the alleged mugger in the car, but the train stopped “halfway out of the station” and the conductor came back and pulled the actor into the next car.

 

“Then about 10 cops jumped on the train and got the guy handcuffed on the floor. I told them the guy had a knife. They found it hidden under a seat or something,” he recounted.

 

Police arrested the 39-year-old man and charged him with robbery, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

 

So why did McCullouch decide to take on his assailant instead of surrendering his laptop?

 

“I don’t know why I did that except that I box three or four days a week and had just been in the ring about eight hours before,” he said.

 

He had also spent some time editing a clip for YouTube, which he said he didn’t want to go to waste.

 

“I didn’t want to give up my computer after working on my video all that time,” he concluded.
