DHayward Posted September 26, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2007 Today I was riding home on an RTS bus. While talking to my friend I noticed a small yellow sticker above the driver. It read: This bus is equipped with Engine Idle Shutoff. After 5 minutes of idle time, this bus will shut off. Then it proceeded to tell you how to restart the bus in the event this happened. Are the buses in NYC equipped with this Idle feature? I have a picture if you want it. Its not the best; I took it on my cell.
Pablo M 201 Posted September 26, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2007 I don't think MTA buses have that. I think drivers are ordered to turn off if they know they're going to stand still for a while. Same goes with NJT, and same goes at Journal Square. I forgot to thank Harry about that, so thanks Harry! The fight for the division is pretty tense right now though. Shows friendship and rivalry though here. DOB2RTO Posted September 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 27, 2007 YES, NYCTA buses are equipped with this system. If the bus is idling for 20 minutes, with the fast idle switch off (the bus is in low idle), it will shut down on it's own. If the fast idle switch is on, the bus will stay running all day.
