Locomotion69 Posted May 30, 2009 Share #338 Posted May 30, 2009 I am taking it at I.S. 93 in Ridgewood,10:00am,the school is 2 blocks away from Fresh Pond Rd. Parking around there is very hard easy since it is mainly row houses with no driveways or garages. Most likely I will have to park on the other side of Metropolitan Avenue. MotormanMike Posted May 30, 2009 Share #340 Posted May 30, 2009 Hey Everyone that is planning to take the test , just wanted to wish you all luck ... some advice , most of which is obvious , get a good nights sleep , don't forget your pencils , or admission card. Eat something light before the test. The test is going to be mostly reading comprehenision , basic math , and telling military time. Military time from a minute past midnight to 9:59 am just add a 0 in front. From 10:00am to 12:59pm it's the same as am/pm and from 1pm to 11:59pm just add 12 to the first number. EG 7:53pm would be 19:53hrs. Midnight is 24:00. One minute past midnight is 00:01. So simple it's sad:tup: Don't overthink your answers. Take your time. The answer will be in the preceding paragraph. If you are given instructions how to complete a task just find the answer that best corresponds with what is in the paragraph and not what you think , may have heard , learned from a friend , etc. If you are completely stuck on a question and need to guess , guess any answer that has "call control center" in it. If there are multiple answers with that option and you're still stuck go with the most reasonable one. On the math , you know how to add and subtract or you don't. Can't help you there. Again , take your time and check your answers. A sample test question might go like this : When a train goes into emergency the T/O should call control , investigate the problem , fix the problem , call control and proceed when safe to do so. You are the T/O on the 14:57 November out of Stillwell when the train goes into emergency leaving Stillwell Ave. You should : A) Re-Charge and move immediately - time is of the essence. Call control - climb down off the train and look under the first car to see if there is anything that tripped the train. If so , remove it , if not , proceed immediately. C) Call control - investigate what happened , fix any problem that needs fixing and then call control and notify them of what you did and proceed when safe to do so. D) Call control and ask them what to do. If they don't respond after calling them twice , discharge the train. If you answered anything other then 'C' don't take the test ... The answer was right there in the preceeding paragraph almost word for word. You are not going to be expected to know anything technical about train operation or the transit system so for any of you guys and girls who really know your stuff , forget it , and just focus on giving them back what they give you in the paragraph before the question. If anybody has any questions before the big day , post them here and I'll answer them. Again , good luck :tup::tup:

Actually it's 2 blocks from the Forest Ave stop on the . If you get off at Fresh Pond you'll have more than a 2 block walk. I'm surprised I didn't get put here since it's closer to me, I took the conductor exam here. Must be a ton of people taking this test

dhluanr Posted May 31, 2009 Share #349 Posted May 31, 2009 I am out from of town. I got assigned to Grace Dodge VHS in the Bronx off of Fordham Road. (Near the zoo and Fordham University.) I am going to be staying near Columbus Circle, so I was thinking of taking the to 207th Street and getting the Bx12-SBS to Southern Ave then walking the two blocks. Does the test really take 3 hours? The admission ticket says one session of 3 hours. My test is scheduled for 10am, so should I plan on not getting out till 1pm. Also, are they very strict on not taking cell phones into the buildings?
