Tbirdbassist Posted February 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2009 So I was totally unaware of these even being used here in the the city. Let alone for almost a year now! I saw one on 2nd Ave while I was driving across 57th st last Friday. Whats the word on these? I read there were two in service. I'd like to see more around, they look very good. DOB2RTO Posted February 17, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2009 So this bus is back, huh......These are some pics I took when it was here at 100st depot..... Does this mean now there are two competing artics here, trying to win MTA's approval. Both are strong candidates, since NovaBus would build here in NY (so I hear), and Orion would produce the Citaro G, since it is from their sister bus maker of Europe......... JoeDBusBuilder Posted February 19, 2009 Share #11 Posted February 19, 2009 Daimler is working on converting the European Mercedes Citaro design for North American use. no small feat. Probably will not be available until 2012 or later in North America. Current rumors within Orion are that it will not be build in their plant in Oriskany NY. the Citaro bus will not carry the Mercedes or Citaro name. Mercedes auto group does not want the exclusivity of the auto brand diminished by trucks and buses using the branding. Nova Bus on the other hand with a plant due to officially open for production in May 2009 has their artic bus in service in NYC presently. More are currently in production at their main plant in Montreal. The Citaro is a flimsy piece of junk.

Citaro Posted July 23, 2010 Share #20 Posted July 23, 2010 Yeah, ask the people in London who still remembers the problems since arriving. "Chariots of Fire" There are 25000 Citaro Gs in Europe, only a few of them burned in London, but most of them are reliably.

Citaro Posted July 23, 2010 Share #23 Posted July 23, 2010 I'd take my NHTSA crash worthy New Flyers and Novas over EU based vechiles. Come on! 25.000 Buses without deaths and without big problems. It's the most popular bus in the world for over 10 years. Every car, truck or bus by Mercedes has the the highest rank from the NHTSA. Mercedes becomes the U.S. Government Award for Safety Engineering Excellence.
