jeffmorris Posted February 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2009 I was looking at photos of the IND R1 #100 subway car on http://www.nycsubway.org website and I found out that it had new headlights and taillights mounted on the anti-climber. Why?
7LineFan Posted February 14, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2009 When it originally came it didn't have taillights, and those are required, so they had to retrofit it with them. I guess it was cheaper to fit an entirely new unit to the car.
jeffmorris Posted February 15, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted February 15, 2009 Until 1960s, NYCTA subway cars didn't have headlights. They had four lights at each ends that change colors. I think that the bottom lights are red or white and the top lights are different colors.
