MTR Admiralty Posted July 22, 2009 Share #52 Posted July 22, 2009 If that were the case, then I would convert the hippos. It's not an easy process. There must be enough hippos (64 say) for conversion and SIRT service.
S78 via Hylan Posted July 22, 2009 Share #53 Posted July 22, 2009 Is it possible that would happen after all the R160s are delivered?
MTR Admiralty Posted July 22, 2009 Share #54 Posted July 22, 2009 Is it possible that would happen after all the R160s are delivered? Fact of the matter is, there is a difference between what we say and what they say. Unfortunately, we can't make the decisions on what stock should be on the SIR. Even if 64 cars could be extracted, they must be converted to FRA specs. Then transported via truck. Following that, they must be able to be paired. Look at the SIRT R44s, they could be paired. However the NYCT R44s are largely in 4 car sets. It is true that the replacement fleet will come soon, but the date is indefinite. But now, if you put the hippos there, they will run there for half their lives, before another batch of cars replace them. Having an all new set of cars will allow for the new cars to run there for a good amount of time. And because there is a good amount of planning time, these cars could come in in either pairs or sets. The SIRT R44s are shabby, yes. But that doesn't mean the hippos should go there and replace them pronto.

MTR Admiralty Posted August 7, 2009 Share #57 Posted August 7, 2009 405 and 415 have SMS. Whoa this is a far cry from the SIR I remembered back in January. Most of the cars then, were un-SMSed and distasteful.
S78 via Hylan Posted August 7, 2009 Share #58 Posted August 7, 2009 Yeah, but they still run good. As of of now, 23 of the 63 have SMS.

LRG Posted August 7, 2009 Share #61 Posted August 7, 2009 The weird thing is, I keep getting the non SMS R44s every time I ride them. Really? Last time I was in Staten Island I got an SMS R44. Aren't our R44s supposed to be receiving SMS though?
S78 via Hylan Posted August 7, 2009 Share #62 Posted August 7, 2009 They are supposed to, but to my last post, I forgot to add that I pass other trains with SMS or miss them.

R44 5278 Posted August 11, 2009 Share #65 Posted August 11, 2009 The weird thing is, I keep getting the non SMS R44s every time I ride them. Can't be as bad as me getting R38s all the time as a kid when riding the A, and the R42s all the time presently when riding the J/Z. I personally love the R38s, but prefer the R44s over them. S78 via Hylan Posted August 11, 2009 Share #66 Posted August 11, 2009 Now I have a plan: When I ride the SIR and I am at the end of the platform and only one car with SMS shows up, I run to that car. B) As of 8/11/09 we have: 388-399, 401, 405-406, 415, 417-418, 429, 431, 436, 440, 450, 454 and 456.

LRG Posted August 22, 2009 Share #70 Posted August 22, 2009 Orange seats look better IMO The original seats are only covered with blue to conform with the seats on the NTTs. IMO I really don't care, as long as I get a seat, I'm happy.
