ajpeyton 0 Posted February 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2009 Is it possible to get a real NYC subway car. I have read they throw them in the ocean, or pay to have them scrapped. Do they try to sell them?
MTR Admiralty 4 Posted February 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2009 I believe there was a similar thread made about this. I know parts of the trains, like doors and horns are sold. But a car? Talk to the MTA people.

Broad St. Belle 0 Posted February 22, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2009 Is it possible to get a real NYC subway car. I have read they throw them in the ocean, or pay to have them scrapped. Do they try to sell them? Yes, it's possible. This link doesn't have an actual price for a subway car, but it does provide a number/e-mail in which you can direct your inquiry to. Hope that helps! metsfan 2 Posted February 22, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2009 Thanks BSB! I couldn't find it. Good luck with your quest! - A
SubwayGuy 2,321 Posted February 23, 2009 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2009 Good luck but be advised that because of asbestos contained within many of the cars currently being retired, the MTA will likely not sell the car directly to you. However if you think you have the money, a small stretch of track, and more importantly the space (and equally importantly some basic maintenance skills) and you think you can do it, it can't hurt to try and if that's true best of luck... mark1447 685 Posted February 23, 2009 Share #8 Posted February 23, 2009 You can buy a subway car, depends on the price over $90, 000 [NTTs a lot more] But could cause you to pay more for your land. I dunno
