Amtrak7 Posted February 24, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted February 24, 2009 In the 1994 video there is shot of F-units hauling C3's. Weren't the C3's only compatible with DE/DM?

Prior to the C3s, in the early 90s the LIRR bought a set of experimental C1 units you see in the video. FL9 locos were used, leased from Metro North and Metra, with a special generator car built from an old FL9 that brought up the rear. The train was riddled with mechanical issues during its tenure on the rails, and only being 1993ish much of diesel territory was still low platformed, so they would only run on the Port Jefferson branch, which was all high platform at the time. One train to Penn in the morning, one train to PJ in the afternoon. The C1s were on the property at Morris Park up until fairly recently. They were sold off to some railroad in New England IIRC.
