If all the R142A's run in 10 car sets, they would be too short for the !! They will order the R188 and put them one in some sets of R142A's so they will have some 5 car and some 6 car sets, to make 11 car trains? get it? Its called taking R142 B cars and adding them to another 5 car set to make six. GET IT? That way we have 11 car consists of R142s. There is a notice from the MTA looking for bidders that the MTA wants conversion kits and new cars. And what new cars? B cars, most likely.
