MTA's off-peak plan could cut costs for many commuters

The MTA'S proposed $1.50 off-peak fare could actually lower traveling costs for the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who don't have traditional work schedules.

More than 2 million subway rides are taken during off-peak hours every day, Monday through Friday, ridership data show.

Another 5.2 million trips are taken on weekends.

i like this plan better. i usually ride the subways on the weekends anyway so it would be beneficial to me and lots of other people as well.

Doesn't this kinda eliminate a lot of the benefits of a fare increase? I like my metrocard to have a definite amount of ride left, not 3.75 rides on it anyway.
