Bad train day...

So this is the story. I was at home this morning around 11AM and was ready to leave with my parents to have brunch in Chinatown. Then suddenly my girl calls and asks if I want to go jogging with her in Central Park. So then I'm like yeah. She's like: "get there at 11:30, cause I to get back quick". I know it's impossible to go from East Broadway to 110th Street in under 30 minutes on a weekend... but I never expected anything worse:

The F train came in pretty late, due to the Jay Street work and the A being rerouted. I got to Broadway Lafayette around 11:17. So, I was like: "okay... I'm definitely late now. Perhaps Janet could wait 15 more minutes" The D came in 20 minutes later. Now I really started to worry. Between West 4th and 34th Street, the stupid D train crawled at such a pace, that my grandfather have could literally outrun it. Curse that train. It was like nearly 12:00. So it picked up speed after that, yay for me. But I never knew that the D was going to run local from 59th to 145th. So it switched to the local before 59th and I was surprised myself. There were no signs indicating that the D was running local. The C/R said "next stop 72nd Street". So I stayed on. I couldn't hear correctly that the C/R said "THIS TRAIN WILL MAKE ALL LOCAL STOPS." In fact, I thought I heard (at 72nd Street) "THE NEXT STOP IS 125TH" I was like WTF??? So I got out of 72nd. I waited for the A, since I knew that was local. Another D came in, and yet I was still ignorant of the fact that the D was running local on CPW. So I waited for another train. After 5 minutes, I looked at my phone and I was like "omg... Janet's not going to like this at all". I ran out of the station and decided to take the bus. So luck finally came in my way and I got on the M10. However by the time I reached Janet's place, I saw her shaking her head. "I waited an HOUR for you!" And I said: "well... the subway screwed me up... sorry"

Effing trains...after my jog with Janet, I went back to 110th with her. When I got to the southbound platform, waiting for the A, I saw the uptown D pulling into the uptown platform at that station. I stood there, stupefied.

Moral of the story: Try to pay attention to the service advisory thing (which OBVIOUSLY I haven't looked when I was at my home station) BEFORE YOU STEP ONTO THE TRAIN.

I hate it when that happens. I'm just glad she didn't get too mad. =]

LOL yeah, I know right. At least she didn't smack me for being dreadfully late. We had a fine jog together at Central Park.

The worse thing is, I HAD NO IDEA THAT THE D WAS GOING LOCAL ON CPW.

What a girl! You're lucky. I don't think anyone I know would wait an hour for me to show up. But I totally understand what you mean. They're not very good at announcing service changes. The (2)/(3) were supposed to run local today. So I stayed on the (1) to go to 96th st. As I was getting ready to leave 18th street I see a (2) going downtown on the express and then a (3) going uptown passes me at 23rd st. Totally had me baffled.

Lol, yeah, she's awesome.

I know, and they didn't announce the stuff over the PA. Got me all confused.

I feel extra sorry for anyone waiting for a Manhattan bound D train in Brooklyn after that lady ended up under the train at 18Av yesterday (she lived)-due to a G.O. already in effect, Stillwell bound D trains were running on the N line from 36 ST on so NO SERVICE in either direction for over an hour. Bone chilling!

I have to ask why you would transfer at Broadway Lafayette, Not saying its wrong or anything but I would have stayed on the F to west 4th where I could hear the A coming upstairs.

I never transfer at Broadway Lafayette but that's just me. Many times I have pulled into west 4th on the F to have a B or D waiting across the platform.

My thought was that the D was going to go express on CPW. Hence I transferred over at Broadway Lafayette, without paying attention to the GOs. If those a**holes would put those signs up at B'way Laff, I would at least figure that the D was going local on CPW.

Well, don't ever attempt to do anything in the Subways on Friday to Sunday... Always slow and not coming!

Um... I think you mean riding. And I got no choice. I was going to have brunch with my family when Janet called in. So I literally ran out as soon as possible. I forgot to regard like half of the GOs.

Yes, I mean riding and you can say 'I might be late'... Fridays to Sundays are all problematic for NYC Underground Rail Service...

Sure I could tell Janet I'm going to be late... however, I never expected to be epically late. There aren't cell signals underground. I can't whip out my phone when my train is crawling between West 4th and Herald Square and go like: "Hey, Janet, my train is really really slow today... so yeah, you can wait outside for an hour outside your house. I'll be there... when I get there"

Fridays are not that 'problematic' for subway service. Just the crowds, that's all. People in a rush to get home. It's just the weekends due to the longer headways and the GOs.

I would personally recommend you call each time and say 'I may be late'...

No. Big relationship mistake. That implies that he doesn't care about what time he gets to her house, which implies that he doesn't care about "her time" rather than "his time." Leave early.

Well, it is the NYC Subway... Anything can happen since it got so many trains in some many lines... I would personally recommend you call each time and say 'I may be late'...

Exactly man, when you are going with someone, you don't say "Oh, I may be late" or stuff. If I said "I will be a little late" or something, she'll be more mad at me than me going up to her 45 minutes late. And all she did was shake her head and me and said "Why are you late? I waited an hour? Lets go."

LOL! Leaving early? She called me at 10:58 and I have to get there by 11:30? In time?? On a weekend? In the age of teleportation, Harry Potter styled apparition and bullet subways, that is possible. In the age of a century old system that is getting weekly fixes, no.

She got mad at me when I ditched her. Cause once she was supposed to come over to my area. She was late (probably her train was messed up) and I'm like watching the time. Then she sent a text to me saying she's late and I'm like screw it. When she got there, I left, because I had do something. And then she called me and was like "Where are you???" But yeah, we met up some time later.
