MTR Admiralty Posted March 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 8, 2009 I received word from Widecab5 (via Subchat) that: -The 11th set of R160A at Jamaica Yard is in service on the E as of yesterday afternoon. The numbers are 9333-9342. -The number of R38s has dropped again. There are now 18 cars left as of Thursday. More news to follow.
R421969 Posted March 8, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 8, 2009 I have noticed the R38s have been few in number and at a decreasing rate; they are hard to spot. Are the R38s going to have a farewell run? If so, would this be soon considering there are only 18 left?
R44 5278 Posted March 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 8, 2009 I doubt that would happen since the T/Os hate them very much. They are the best performing of the 60' SMEEs and yet many people regards them as horrible as the R42s. It's very sad.

Anyway, I don't think they will have a farewell run since they are such a small and average fleet.

I'm going to fix that. Yes, the numbers ARE dropping. I still haven't gotten any car numbers yet. But that is the count so far.

However, that does not mean that the train crews, IN GENERAL hate them. There are quite a number of train personnel that enjoy operating them, in fact some of them are on this forum. SevenEleven Posted March 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 8, 2009 Thanks for the updates. R160s on the are so common. It's like a 90% that you'll catch one. As for the R38s, I wish I could say the same. They're going by so fast. I'm going to miss all the times they ran on the and the , and then finally together in the R32/R38 mixes. They sound so great together. Pelham Bay Dave Posted March 9, 2009 Share #12 Posted March 9, 2009 I like operating the R32/38's but I hate the R42's but not as much as I hate the R68A. R160 on the is very common.
R44 5278 Posted March 9, 2009 Share #13 Posted March 9, 2009 Well anytime when I bring up the R38s, all people wanted was for them to get of the property ASAP. I'm curious, is operating an R68A that bad?

speedyracer90 Posted March 9, 2009 Share #16 Posted March 9, 2009 I'm sure going to miss the R38s and their dimly lit interiors. I think I'm one of the few people who prefer their dim lights to those bright, hospital like interiors of the NTTs. My only gripe with the R38s were their extremely dirty RFWs. R32 3838 Posted March 9, 2009 Share #17 Posted March 9, 2009 4076-77 are gone as of last week, I rode that pair the most aside from 4140/41, I will miss riding the R38's in the Summertime in the Rockaways.
VinnyBrooklyn Posted March 9, 2009 Share #18 Posted March 9, 2009 There was only a few on the line today that I saw 4120-21, 4070-71, 4140-41 Looks like their days are really numbered.
R32 3348 Posted March 9, 2009 Share #19 Posted March 9, 2009 Well, I saw a barge hanging around with steel boxes around Hudson River either Friday or Saturday... I don't know if it is the cars going to scrapping?!? Also, I saw a R-160 and PA-5 coming in almost around NJ on the I-80... Only a small Glimpse, don't know if it is for real... What do you mean you don't know if it was real? How do you confuse a 40-ton 60-foot long car on a highway, on a truck that says OVERSIZE LOAD on it with anything else? But yes, if it was on the I-80, then you did in fact see subway cars being shipped to NY...
