Haha yeah, I never want to see that especailly since theres more to that terrible day scenario I have only been talking about if there were problems with stuck trains to the west, now what about from the east?! Ok I'll stop :)

Ya, it has happened before actually, back in the 50's. My girlfriend's dad knew a guy who worked for PRR before they merged. Guy was a mechanic & had to fix 2 PRR EMU trains both stuck in the north river tunnels (both for about 2 hours). while those were being worked on another train died out on a switch near new brunswick effectively blocking 2 tracks. They had to wait to move one of the trains in the tunnels to dispatch a work loco to go move the other train.

That must've been a tremendous nightmare! I never knew that PRR ran MUs during the 50s. All I know is that after it merged with NY Central, they used Arrow Is for a while which were quite unreliable.

 

PRR used some of the craziest locomotives & EMU's on the planet. There are photos of them all over teh interwebs.
