Now it looks like I'm seeing a "6" at the beginning of that number, but it is at such an angle, it's hard to tell. I can see the next two digits are "22".

If this would happen to be 5228-9, then they are R-44's with stainless steel on the band. Are you sure that was not what this was?

Why would 46's be coming over, where there are still not that many 160's in Jamaica, and they are replacing the 32's or 42's first?

The R46's do not have the gray stripe around the middle of the car and its acceleration sounds like the R40/62. They also do not have the glass panels that the 44's have that are by the doors.

Nice, but im highly upset b/c i rest my head on those glass panels when im dead tired from school, and its uncomfortable for me to rest my head on the window.

Thanks for the info though.

The number in the pictures are 6204. This was transferred on Friday as well as 6204-6205-6207-6206 and 6146-6147-6149-6148.

And to answer the second part, the 40/42 sets are remaining for now. The 40 slants will be retiring next. They are placing R46s to Pitkin to retire the slants. For every 160 placed in service a R46 moves to Pitkin and a slant gets retired. Another R46 set will transfer this weekend (if not already) as another 160 will be in service shortly.

There's another difference that's revealed in one of the pictures. The armrest by the transverse seats are open at the top on the R46. On the R44 they are enclosed. The train in the pic from the interior shot is an R46.

I think they accelerate much quieter than either of these and they seem to whine out. After awhile, you do not hear the traction motors. However, besides the famous brake sounds from the R44, I don't recall much of a difference between the noises the two trains make. For me, they remain the standard of noise reduction in subway interiors when the R44 was introduced into service in the early 1970s. Everything since has just been a little bit quieter (except the R62, which seems noisier than the R44/R46)

You Mean R160B (E), I saw it testing today at 42nd st I got 1 pic of it, It was 917x, 9163 was in the middle. Look Forward to riding an R160B soon on the (E), I like those way better than the R160A's. Also for some unknown reason Jamaica is keeping 60 R32's Until most of the R160's come in, That's what it looks like to me.
