R40 F; Stillwell; Circa 1970s

I had purchased this photo from a bunch of older gentlemen at a Flea Market Near my old house in Richmondtown, Staten Island. They were selling whole bunch of Transit Pictures and Tokens..

 

Slant R40's on the Culver F at the veryy old and dirty Stillwell Av Terminal.

That is probably when they were relatively new. It was not long after introduction that they received braces. (Pantographs)

A classic photo! Back when the R40S, R40M and R42 were new, the letters looked like that. Prior to 1979, the was magenta.
