Suheidy Posted April 8, 2009 Share #27 Posted April 8, 2009 Maybe the R142 mixed with the R62 could have the R62 propulsion, orange and red bucket seats. Then with all the cdigital LCD screens and recorded announcements. It could be the R63?
Eric B Posted April 8, 2009 Share #28 Posted April 8, 2009 Each R142-142A has a coupler adapter stored across from the operating cab. And that too is only for emergency moves (rescues of trains). The 143-160's have them too. And it would only be rare emergencies. (I've never heard of an instance of them being used). They're not really that stable (at least not for any extensive use), and of course, have no electrical or pneumatic connections through them. It is just for a one time move if the same class of car is not available to rescue it.

DOB2RTO Posted April 8, 2009 Share #31 Posted April 8, 2009 As Alex, and Trainmaster said, we have coupler adapters, and they suppose to be checked for during the pre-trip in the yard. They are only used if a train can't be moved under its own power, and depending on what time of day it is, they might take the train to a yard (possibly the closest one that can handle that equipment), or they will put the defective train on a spur track that can handle ten cars. They will have 16 - 20 cars, depending on the units and line, but they will be able to uncouple them rather quickly, and get the good unit out and off of the mainline tracks. Why? Cause there will be many TSS's there, and if it is my train, they will be doing just about all of the coupling and uncoupling, since they suppose to redo it anyways, since they are told not to trust the hourly, and anything we do. On certain lines (like the and , they will kill express runs, and use the middle track to hold the B/O train, until they can get it out of there......
