Thug pulls out a gun, Long Island clerk wields ax

 

When the masked robber approached the petite clerk of a Long Island convenience store, little did he know she had an ax to grind.

 

Staring into the barrel of his gun, 5-foot-4 Hafize Sahim pulled a 3-foot-long ax from under the counter and began swinging it at his head as he made a bee-line for the door, cops said yesterday.

 

Sahim, 27, said yesterday that she thought the gun was a fake, which is why she fought back.

 

The woman's unwillingness to show the bandit the money came to light as Suffolk police released wild surveillance footage that shows the clerk at the South Haven Convenience Store on Montauk Highway in Brookhaven during an attempted holdup at 8 p.m. Saturday.

 

"Give me the money. Give me the money," the gunman, dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt and wearing a mask over his face, barked at the clerk.

 

She managed to stall her assailant by feigning to struggle to open the cash register, said Suffolk Police Detective Sgt. Daniel Molloy.

Well, it worked... he didn't get money, and even almost lost his head...

It worked, but she was taking quite a risk by doing so. It's best to just give in to their demands, rather than put your life in jeopardy.
