Re-development needs to go faster. This economic crap isn't going to last forever, and when the recovery hits, i bet you 2 big holes will still be in the place of tower 2 and 3. - A

They're still excavating those two ditches. Only the Freedom Tower and WTC 4 has seen major progress.

MTR Admiralty Posted April 18, 2009 Share #32 Posted April 18, 2009 I don't know if Towers 2 & 3 are too complex to build. The Transit Center and Memorial Park at least is on track, ! Hopefully, the Port Authority can allow light photography there in the future, ... It's not that they are complex to built, it's because Port is still excavating their foundations and they are long overdue. Port has to pay Silverstein Properties sum amount per day late. Man, the Port's going to screw itself up with all of those penalties.

Nope, the money Silverstein gets is free money, he doesn't have to do anything for it. Has nothing to with the PA of NY/NJ.

Julio, Doesn't the Port have to pay a million every day for penalties for T2 excavation? Or something?

The PATH temporary stop occupies the site for it. So when the Hub is opened, the temporary entrance will close for good and room could be made for the Permorming Arts Ctr. MTR Admiralty Posted April 20, 2009 Share #41 Posted April 20, 2009 Well, yeah. But, what is taking so long to build WTC 2 and 3? WTC 4 is building! Politics and other entities were clashing at each other in 2005. The cornerstone for the Freedom Tower was laid on the 4th of July, 2004. However during much of 2005, the State, the City, Silverstein properties and the PA were having this "turf war". During this time, the Freedom Tower had to be re-designed "for security purposes". It was up till late 2006 did hardcore construction begin. Tower 2 and 3 had their foundations at the previous PATH temporary terminal. Crews could not excavate until the PATH terminal at Church Street was demolished. They had to wait till the present one was finished before they could tear it down. It was not just the street structure that had to be demolished, but also the mezzanine and the escalators. Once the PATH station was out of the way, crews could finally excavate the foundations for the future towers.
