Trainspotter Posted October 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2007 Seattle and Other Cities’ Mantra: Improve Transit, Reduce Traffic NOT long after Greg Nickels, the Democratic mayor of Seattle, took office in 2002, his aides reported that the city’s population would grow to 680,000 by 2022, about 100,000 more than in 2004, and that such strong growth would generate 84,000 new jobs. In struggling cities like Detroit and Cleveland, such predictions would prompt jubilation. But in Seattle, the Pacific Northwest’s largest city, the numbers stirred anxiety.
