Celebrate Brooklyn! has announced its summer 2009 lineup.

It's one of the sure signs that summer is just around the corner: Celebrate Brooklyn! has released its summer 2009 lineup for music, dance and film events, so get ready to mark a lot of dates on your calendar - because the pickings this year are good.

The annual series kicks off with an icon of New York's downtown music scene, Talking Heads singer David Byrne.

Also among the highlights on the schedule is indie band Blonde Redhead, Rock/Blues Legend Robert Cray, the acrobatic Streb dance troupe and (listen up Prince fans!!) a campy "Purple Rain" sing-a-long and Hip Hop pioneer Big Daddy Kane.

All shows are held in the Prospect Park Bandshell and are free and open to the public. A $3 donation is suggested to sit in area next to the stage.

Here is the full lineup for music, film, dance and spoken word performances set for summer 2009 in Prospect Park:

Monday, June 8, 8:00 p.m. (gates open at 6:30 p.m.) Rock & Rock Hall of Famer and Talking Heads Lead Singer David Byrne. As in recent years, 'surprise guests' are common as was with the case of Prince a couple of years ago. So dont be shocked to see a surprise guests(s) on this Byrne event.
