LRG Posted May 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2009 I've been wondering...I've seen people explore the remains of the abandoned LIRR Rockaway branch that runs over 100th Street in Queens...if anyone's up for it (and I know it's a silly idea, but it was just lingering there), how about we do the same...like, explore the abandoned North Shore Line of the Staten Island Railway this summer? LRG Posted May 30, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted May 30, 2009 That sounds pretty cool. Really? I mainly suggested it because I remember walking underneath trestles in SI by Richmond Terrace and I was in WTF mode because I didn't know that there used to be train service there back in the 50s. We should check it out then, sometime in July. Let's see if anyone else would be interested.
KTrainExp Posted June 2, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 2, 2009 I'll see if I can go. It sounds like a pretty cool idea, but parts of the line are dangerous, especially if we're going to cross over the trestles.
Y2Julio Posted June 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2009 You need to look into the legality of this before you go and get other members to go with you.
LRG Posted June 3, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted June 3, 2009 Yeah I had a feeling, although I wonder if the people who explored the abandoned LIRR Rockaway branch got permission, after all it is abandoned...look at the Forgotten NY website. Y2Julio Posted June 3, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 3, 2009 Even when something is abandoned, someone legally owns it regardless if its used or not.
