  1. Does anyone know if there is an update route guide out there (b division). The one that school car gives you is 5 years old, is missing punch boxes on routes, still has the M going to bay parkway etc... I will take good notes while posting but it would be nice to have something that is done already.

  2. Yeah, that was us. I was the one swapping stories with Magri.

Yes, 3 schoolcars down the Brighton Line at the same time. I thought the dispatchers were gonna have a stroke.

Nice to meet you. I've been reading your school car thread from the beginning, great stuff. I was the guy asking about Broad st.

Congrats on passing the road practical. Hope to see you out there soon.

  3. We've been in schoolcar for exactly 6 weeks now but with our class being the pilot class I'm hearing that we're getting our tests and practicals sooner than the previous classes. If that's the case then I actually prefer it that way. Get all my testing out the way upfront so that I can just focus on fine-tuning my operation.

I'm in the class before you. Our 1st yard practical and midterm were in the 9th week. When is yours? What week is your signals test?

  4. The end is nigh.....

Past 2 days have been nothing but review and busy work (for lack of a better term).

Taking an R68A for a joyride tomorrow; probably Concourse to Brighton Beach via Local. We want to practice on the 68As one last time.

Was that you at concourse around 3pm at the picnic table outside the crew room?

  5. Took the d.t this am( got there @7 out by 10:30, FYI was told by personnel that next class is 5/20

When you go to Livingston and pick between the a and b division on your second day would you mind posting how many a and b spots were filled?

Just curious as to how many people are being hired per class.

What are the computers that are lined up to the left of the reception desk @ 180 used for, I noticed some guys that were doing their final medical were using them,,,, just curious

It's a medical background thing. Have you had any past high blood pressure ......etc.. No big thing. Once again as with anything in this process answer it honestly.

  6. First couple checks you will have to go pick up at your pay location that you chose??? A terminal or 180 Livingston Street??

First couple checks you will have to go pick up at your pay location that you chose??? A terminal or 180 Livingston Street??

Yes you pick a terminal close to where you live and can pick it up there after 3pm on the Thursday of your pay period (every 2 weeks).

A little something of note, they tell you to get your first check before you put in for direct deposit on the bsc portal (they will explain this at orientation) which I did and by my 3rd check direct deposit was working. One of my classmates applied for it the day after orientation and his direct deposit was working by his 2nd check.

  7. Anyone who went down for the pre-employment screening process, PLEASE answer this important ques. Did they ask for at anytime, 3 persons of character??? Like 3 people you have to put down but can't be relatives. They must verify you are a good person, blah blah blah etc.

I didn't have to do that

  8. Well I got my letter yesterday report 5/10.  List 71X.  I have a question.

I know everyone says the first visit is drug test only.  Then 2nd time is medical/hearing/ekg.  However:

My letter states :  "Pre interview and medical examination, which will include baseline audiometric (hearing) testing.  Photographic Identification and social security card are required for pre-employment medical examination."

So, my question is, do they just say that and you get just the drug test, or did something change?  Just curious.  I also just realized that although I never needed glasses to drive, (20/30 vision), I'm guessing this eye exam is deeper than DMV and should probably get glasses just in case, am I correct on that hunch?

The first visit is just the drug test and some paper work. You will do the medical on your next visit when they call you. All the first notices say pre-interview, medical.

My advise to you is to go to your eye dr for an exam and get whatever corrective lenses you need. When I took the eye test i did it with my glasses and without. Best case is you pass without your glasses and don't have to operate with them. Worst case is you get put on medical hold until you get your glasses and pass the eye exam. In my opinion it is an unnecessary risk that could delay your hiring.

By the way I passed the DMV eye test without my glasses easy but I needed my glasses for the TA test.

    Good Luck

Thanks and good luck to all who have to report.

  9. There is no real interview. If all goes well with your medical they will ask you if you are ok to start for the date of the class. They then look over your 21 page booklet maybe asking a few questions based on what you wrote down. Then they swear you in and give you your rule book, take a pic for your pass and off you go.

    Good Luck

Also they will take your finger prints at this time

  10. Hi everyone, got a letter today saying that I have to report at 180 Livingston street for Pre-Interview and medical examination. Can anyone who's done this tell me what kind of interview and what should I be ready for?

Thanks in advance, and also thanks to everyone who post and give us information, I had an idea on when I was going to get my letter based on all the information I read, It was still sooner that what I thought. My # 790-800

  11. Hey, is it true that if you deadhead from one terminal to another you have to stand up the whole way??? I heard that today :(

Boy the things people tell rookies are hilarious.

The only time it is required to stand and operate is in a yard on a two handed controlled train.

  12. Yeah...Had my feelings hurt today - got thrown in the B. Hopefully we'll get most of the weekends off during Schoolcar. :-/ Still happy I'm hired, but I'll always have it in the back of my mind that I'll live close to quite a few A Div reporting locations. BTW, the TSS who spoke with us today said there's no April class scheduled as of yet, but there's a lot of folks still retiring.

You will get all your weekends off during school car so at least your summer will be good. Did they tell you about the 3 months in the yard yet? Your class is supposed to be the first to do it.

A liitle advise don't get discouraged, they throw a lot of stuff at you in the first couple of weeks and your head will be spinning but it all starts to make sense rather quickly. If you do the reading, study the signals and learn the terminology you will be golden. Operation comes with repetition and you will get good at it. Learning the definitions of the signals the way they want it is up to you. Apply yourself, take pride in your work and you will have a long career. Good Luck

  13. I finally start Schoolcar 3/25 :-). What day should I start bringing a backpack? Since our first two days are Downtown BK then P.S. 248 - I'll be hopping on the train. I took that drive to P.S. 248 once and traffic going to and from was murder!! How many days do we report to 248? Thanks in advance.

Congrats BX Girl. You won't need your backpack until thursday or Friday at ps248. The tss will tell you which day they will be giving you your books and tools and they will remind you to bring a backpack that day. You don't need one for orientation at Livingston. Just bring something you can fit a book binder in. You will be filling out paperwork for human resources and meeting reps from the different dept. Going over insurance and 401 & 457 Plans the first 2 days.

You will be at ps248 for 4 days plus 1 day for the right to know class sometime the following week. If you are driving you should be there around 6:30 to find parking except wed when there is no alt. Side.

    Good Luck

  14. Can anyone that is currently in school car, please find out the dates for April, May, and June. Thank u

The TSS I have spoke to said they didn't know anything after the 3/25 class. They did say that the 3/25 class was going to be a pilot class for extra training. Instead of the normal 1-2 weeks of yard posting (depending on your division) they were going to get 3 months of yard work before coming back to school car for their final practicals.

They expected more classes but wouldn't confirm it.

  15. The next school car class is on March 25. As for April, May, and June I don't know yet. But I do know from speaking to a TSS a few weeks ago in the subway. Is that there will be classes "ALL YEAR LONG". Meaning that the list will be climbing even further. At this rate it should reach in the 1000's for the drug test by June. My question is from what I heard they charge you a $75.00 fee when they take your fingerprints. What other fees are charged for pre-employment-screening???

The finger printing is the only thing they charge you for and as stated above it comes out of your first paycheck.

  16. Does anyone know what list# they are up to? I am in the mid 700's. Does anyone know what to do if I move before I recevie the letter? thanks in advance for the help.

I took the drug test yesterday. List number in the 470's. I expected more people to be there I counted less than 35. Whatever you guys do when you get called for the drug test make sure you bring everything they asked for in the letter. Quite a few people were sent home because they didn't have all the correct documents and won't be processed until they have them.
