  1. Saw alot of day 10 people at Zerega. Hope everything went well.

Got assigned Fresh Pond Depot with Supt. Williams. Anyone can share some advice on Supt?

Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Tapatalk

i had williams! funny guy.. great attitude..great instructor.. you still gotta be on point to make it in 7

  2. This training will have you thinking about a bus for 2 weeks non stop lol. I also completely understand why youngnyc know when he says he felt that his instructor was an a**hole. Some of these guys think they own the mta or something and make you so nervous when you drive. The stories i heard today are down right ridiculous

For the people going to day 10 good luck wish you nothing but the best and i truly hope you guys/girls pass

i kno i seen ya today but just wanted to congratulate you again man.. hopefully i meet up with ya on tues lol

  3.      Well im going to day 10! heard over 20 ppl are as well. I had day 9 almost sucessfully wrapped up  until close to the end when a van decided to park on the corner in middle of my what should have been a routine left turn.. so of course i get " unsatisfactory in forward planning on that one " and sent to day 10.. not gonna lie feeling a bit discouraged at this point.. been putting my heart.. sweat and tears into this for the last 2 weeks.. gotta shake it off and go out there for day 10 .. it is what it is

  4. I got to go to day 9 . I messed up a turn in which it was 2 lanes that could turn into a parkway and i was suppose to put the bus in the middle. Instead i made the turn from the right lane. After that i was so angry and pissed off at my self that i lost all concentration and touched a curb on an easy ass right turn. I went from being perfect on day 5 and 6 (union sq area manhattan). To screwing up a turn in an area i done like 3 times. My other class mates had to be telling me to calm down the whole day because i looked like my mother got shot.

Im going to 9 as well, my whole bus  is, Yesterday supt said we spent to much time in those intersections down in union square. Today was a much better day for me though.. feel like its all starting to click... im going to gunhill depot to meet up with supt Quarless

  5.     Day 2 was good, supt let most of the classes explore the bus by themselves  and study pre trip and alsaps  cause  they had a 2 hour zerega meeting lol.  Feeling prety comfortable with the bus, got trollied for getting to close to con ed truck but that was about it... my turns are ok.. not great but  no curbs so thats a plus.. and i have to rem to use push and pull through turns i tend to let old steering habits come into play when im concentrating following through turns

  6. Pre trip is easy. Just call out everything u see. If you call out too much who cares lol. Better to call out too much then not enough.

inzo u the guy i was talken to the other day at zerega?  if so im the big guy we were bs ing  outside on my orienatation day on tues

  7.             Day 1 wasn't too shabby. we drove around local streets in east new york. My supt seems like a really cool guy and knows his stuff. Had to over correct on a right turn today and was able to find my pivot point to avoid mounting a curb. I did get  a trolli for not looking over my shoulder when making a left turn though, but i learned my lesson. Everyone in my class had a decent day 1 too. looking forward to tomorrow

  8.     Freshpond  at 830 for me! With supt williams, can anyone tell me about him?

at least i didnt get a bz depot for training , took me 2 hrs to get bak to si today grr

    *bx

nyc gamer, its all good i was the fat dude in the back  (from si) without the mohwak! haha

  9.         posted this ? on the other forum as well. Dont mean this to sound like a dumb question but i rather ask than find out the hard way lol.

Going into the 9/6 class, have been reading the forums and preparing myself. Basic question that has been confusing me though. I have my  CDL B and  on the Nys road test we HAD to turn into the left lane when making a left turn.  In MTA training or even in general  (considering bus stops and such) do the busses turn into the left lane first or always the right lane from the left turn,

  11. Left turns are generally shoulder to double yellow line, acute left's you obviously have to turn sooner, bumper to double yellow.

Right turns are generally pillar to curb and acute rights usually means you have to turn later and is ALL about the pivot points ( Which you'll learn about)

But these are only references, nothing is set in stone (except for the pivot points)... You may have to use your own judgement on certain turns. These references don't work 100% of the time.

    Day 3

First thing we did was the EL pillars in the simulator. First time I actually appreciated the simulator, it gives a really good understanding about your pivot points.

Next we learned how to operate the wheel chair lift, secure wheel chairs, and set up the farebox.

We also learned bus stops, near side, mid block, and far side. As well as everything else we learned in day 1 and 2.

thank you! g luck out there sounds like so far so going good

  12.          SO ive been watching some you tube videos of the training buses doing the acute turn  on 14 street in union sq ... can somebody share the different kinds of turns and there references points,  Acute turn is bumper to curb and start turning early or so im reading ,,etc etc.. just wanna be prepared with some knowledge before i get in that driver seat in 2 weeks haha

  13. First, no problem. It's more or less a general idea, the exact wording may be different, such as the Parking Brake popping out instead of Springing out. Hopefully you, and the other folks, find those handouts helpful as well.

Second, the type of bus I was on was the standard Orion VII bus..one of the buses I was on, out of Flatbush can actually be seen in this YouTube clip (recognize the logo on the passenger side??). There were some depots on Staten Island which were included in the first seven days of training.

The interlock is put on with the door handle (1:00 or 4:00 position), and it's released by the service brake by stepping on it completely before you take off.

    gotcha! thank you

  14. So day 1, for those of you who are interested, consisted of the Sup. explaining to us what he wants. Forward planning (12-15 seconds), 4' clearance, reference points, pivot points, calling out hazards, 3-5 mph turns, scanning mirrors every 3-5 seconds etc, the 3 S's (Safety, Service, Schedule), and basically to call out any potential hazard possible... If a squirrel runs across the street, point it out!

We learned how to turn on the bus, our PNI's (Park, Neutral, Interlock), Pre-trip inspection (including ALSAPS), right and left turns,

We each drove about 30-35 min each, performing at least 4 left turns and 4 right turns.

on the interlock part.. is it done with the brake or the door handle?

also what depot are you training in ?

  15. Hopefully these handouts will help you with your pre-trip (last two images) along with other things.

    For the Air Brake Test, remember A L S A P S:

    - Initial air loss rate check (can't loose more than 3 psi per minute)

L  - Low air rate check (@60 psi, warning siren comes on indicating low air pressure)

S  - Spring Brake Check (@30psi, parking brake springs up)

A  - Air Compressor Cut Off Test (Air pressure cuts off @120 psi, step on gas to speed this up)

P  - Parking Brake Test (vehicle does not move when parking brake is applied)

S  - Service Brake Test (move vehicle 5 to 10 feet, service brakes work)

If you watch this YouTube clip, at 1 minute and 25 seconds, "23% of those hired will fail out of the initial training."

Not necessarily, I would though at least start it, this way if you have any questions or need additional blank copies for your work experience, or anything else, you will be able to get them.

The answer to your first question is no. For training, they "randomly" pick a depot for you to report to anywhere in the 5 boroughs. For the second question, from what I recall from 2014, they only make you do that one of the days when you do the elevated pillars - so don't worry about it.

Thanx for the alsap break down! , im gonna be going over these for the next two weeks. What kind of bus were you training on? was it the new ones with the huge windows and was staten island  part of any training depots?

  16. 3 of us (including me) qualified on today. One guy didn't. So now it's do or die on Monday. I hope he passes. Thanks everyone for the support. So happy to be done wth that training lol.
