It sounds like a waste of resources. The problem with piecewise CBTC implementation is that you make the subway less flexible to reroutes (especially unplanned ones) because specific subway cars are therefore banned from operating on specific routes bc theyre not CBTC compatible

Also they're putting CBTC on the Culver line but the EL looks in such bad shape they should've  put their time in fixing it up first

I was taking the R to College Today and i saw i Cuomo/Siemens set, a Cuomo/Alstom set, and a Siemens/Alstom Set, what is Jamaica doing with the R160's?

Well knowing jamaica yard, it looks like they dont give 2 shts about mixing like coney island yard did lol

You need to stop assuming which cars are going where in the future. As of now, the Alstom R160s from CIY are permanently remaining at Jamaica Yard. What happens a few years from now is a mystery to all of us, so just chill out and stop with the guessing game.

Nah dude, from seeing all of richard lewis posts im certain hes just trolling this whole forum

I’ve often seen the <Q> sign on R46s since they started running that lone (R) train to 96th that comes back south as a (Q).

Speaking of which, I boarded car #9792 on the (Q) at 34th this morning. Meanwhile across the platform, I saw car #8926 in all its loud Siemens glory departing as part of an (R) train. There will be plenty more of that to come, I’m sure.

#8926? Looks like thats a new set that was transfered over.

Speaking of loud siemens motors take a look at this video

Apparently, all R160 Alstom cars from CIY (N/Q/W) were transferred to Jamaica (E/F/R).

Can we get another update on which R160 cars still remain in CIY and the remaining R46s at Jamaica to be transferred to CIY?

8833-8837 is still at coney island yard because they are using it for some sort of testing at church ave (F)

8843-8857,8868-8877,8888-8892,8898-8947,8958-8962,8968-8972,8978-9012,9018-9102 are left at coney island yard

8653-8832,8838-9942 (ALSTOM) are at jamaica yard. Every alstom from coney is gone.

6 siemens sets are over at jamaica now. 60 cars total

    8858-8867, 8878-8887, 8893-8897,8928-8937, 8948-8957, 8963-8967, 8973-8977, 9013-9017

No more alstoms left at coney island yard except 8833-8837

    8863 👌

I wonder in the short time that the (N) and (W) had those R46’s running on them if some people got on the R46 (N)(W)  thinking it was an (R) just because the (R) has been running with R46’s for probably over 30 years already. I don’t know how long the R46’s have been at Jamaica, all I know is that they symbolic to the R line.  When I think of the (R) line I think of the R46. The QBL is going to have no type of diversity once all the R46’s are gone.

Yeah people do confuse them and think its an R.

Ive rode the r46 N many times because i use the line everyday and people do get confused. People get in and ask is this an R is this an R? Then the conductor has clarify that its an N. I mean it has N signage all over but people are not used to it

  7. Today as i was coming back from visting my family i saw a r160 siemens, Not in service bypassing 36st heading uptown to who knows where.

After this, i got off the D and like right after the D train left another r160 siemens set bypassed the station i think it was deadheading to coney island yard.

Maybe theyre gonna start transfering them over?

It will be interesting to see how the Siemens and Alstom R-160's mix together on (E)(F) and (R).  If there will again be problems as prior.

Do you think there is a chance the jamaica yard will replace the siemens motors for alstoms just to make every single train set alstom and have no problems with mixing?

Does anyone know what the problems were or are with the siemens sets? I read somewhere that 9803-9942 were also suppsoed to have siemens motors but they got removed for alstoms in the end
