I've giving up trying to get back on the list. Numerous calls and emails sent to DCAS and MTA since Feb. DCAS told me in March I cant get back on the list due to an impending appointment. I was hired in Oct 22 and resigned nov 22 and I was passing everything at that time so I didn't have an impending appointment in Feb. I replied to that email several times and called to no response. Emailed and called MTA sever times no response. In July 6 I received an email from DCAS saying sorry for the late reply and telling me it takes months to process the form to get back on the list and I would received an email soon. Incompetence all around.

So I guess I had a similar path. However I had completed both conductor school car and then 4 months in was called for TO then completed that. After 6 months in as TO I decided to resign and take another job. With some good advice from my TSSs I ensured to follow the steps to have my name placed back on the list through DCAS. I just kept emailing and calling until I got someone to reply. I kept in touch with at the time Ms. Vargas and then Ms. Olha. Then several months later saw my name was back on the certification list and I’m now back as a TO.

I wouldn’t necessarily call them incompetent but they do deal with thousands and thousands of emails for all different exams. It’s on you to stay on top of them continue the steps to contact them until they get back to you with a solution. Whether if you like it or not it is what it is.

Some advice if you still want back in, continue with the steps to contact them and get this fixed because with the list extended again, if you can get back on the list and recertified you’ll be called for the following class.

    Good Luck!

My friend just got hired. Cant make this class any news on the class after?

There are classes supposedly scheduled every month until Nov. Dec. This months class starts Monday the 24th. The next months class start date is usually announced within two weeks after the current months class begins.

They just put a new certified list out. All they did for past 2 weeks was pre employment. Unless they called people that drug tested in January

Trust me, the class will start April 10th. The certified list was March 10th. You can check the DCAS site for that. Several who were re-certified to the list with very low certified eligibility numbers were contacted for drug and medical on back to back weeks and were sworn in for the April 10th class. If you have a high number you were skipped even if you had drug testing done back in Jan. Also if you did drug testing back in Jan, you’ll have to do drug testing again before even being called in for medical.

Again a lot of misinformation here, I can only tell ya what I actually experienced and heard and be truthful to that.

How do you know this? They haven’t called anyone back for medical yet! And usually they let you know with at least two weeks before the class starts !

Several were called and sworn in last week. Several more this week. They can call for medicals and swear you in as close to the class date as they want and need.

Jokes/Comments like these will get you on Platform.  Your orange vest will be the beacon of shame.  You will be seeing me very shortly in School Car........I will introduce myself.

It was a comment on his username which is a joke in itself. Not that I even believe you are a TSS I know many TSS’s personally and they are the biggest pranksters and jokesters. While also taking the job seriously. While I was on the job all TSS’s I came across were really super chill if you got to know them. Stop trying to scare others with this platform nonsense. Yes you will get on platform by making mistakes not jokes. However stressing it too much is not healthy for yourself or the job. Yes study, learn the job, and you’ll be fine, to others worrying it stressing. Don’t be scared or stress by TSS’s. They are not like this one is making it out to be.

Thanks for the insight very helpful

Question do you at least get set days off or does it rotate every week.

It won’t change every week, but until you pick, so for the first couple years it could change from time to time. Like every couple months I’d say, when I was CR they changed my RDOs three times in 4 months….. but everyone is different unfortunately. I had classmates that stayed the same the whole time. Granted at that time I started processing for TO schoolcar lol so they ensured the days I needed to be at the MAC was my day off 😒😒😒

15 hour shifts at $40 an hour sounds like heaven from the outside looking in lol. Plus you guys said union contract negotiations will be coming up soon so hopefully that pay can get bumped up to match inflation. All I need is good pay and to be able to take a couple vacations a year and I’m straight.

I’ve seen a lot of pros and cons about the job and lifestyle itself. Here’s my quick experience from being on the inside and leaving to see the outside of it.

I’d never be a CR again. Just wasn’t for me. But I have friends and classmates that are and will always respect the position.

As a TO I was out on the road a month and there’s a certain pride you feel for the position. It’s the only thing now having left, under good circumstances, that I do miss. But from someone that had a decent personal life, seeing friends, family every weekend, you truly don’t realize the hit it will take to that. Losing that enjoyment in life does take a toll for those that had it. And it’s not just the fact that you’ll be working most weekends for prob the first couple years, but your body has to adjust to this lifestyle.

The pros are there though. The money is decent with the benefits to build a decent life for yourself. It will take sacrifice and for some it’s just mental.

I’m still contemplating myself going back if called again but I’d def have a better mindset going back if I did. However def still contemplating knowing what I’d have to give up.

Hope this helps those that are contemplating or those still prepping to go in def no matter and it’s good to understand you will be giving something up.

  9. Take it for what it’s worth but just spoke to a friend of mine who is a TSS and according to him they are still crying for more TOs. He hasn’t been told when the next class is but he is a schoolcar TSS so I’ll def pass along the info if I hear anything.

She use to lol! I guess too much for her now. Yea that number I have saved under Olha. It goes to vm and it still says her name. I emailed DCAS also to get an update as to when the next list certification will be sent. Maybe I can get some info there.

So finally heard from Olha today and she said they are in the process now for sending back the list to DCAS to get a new certified list. She said to contact her back in about a month to confirm if you’re on the new certified list and possibly when the next class will be.
But that there won’t be as many classes this year as there have been which was almost every month. However she said she expected to as least get through this one last certified list once completed.

Ms. Olha does not answer emails or phone calls. The best way to get information, is from the employment center # 1347-643-8217. Someone answers the phone Monday - Friday and will provide you with information regarding hiring, drugs test, upcoming classes etc.

I’m confused. I did my pre employment on 11/30/2022 so what does this mean for me. Will I start the job at all this year. They told me  to wait 3-90 days for a call back after the pre employment drug test. If the test expires does it affect me even tho I already did pre employment  ?

You’ve started the first step in the process, pre-employment/drug test. Which at that point means nothing. Next step would be the medical and if you get called for that it means they have a class scheduled. But currently you’ll probably have to drug test again before getting called for medical day. Currently from  what I hear no classes are scheduled and they have requested a new certified list from DCAS. But again this is all speculation. Tried contacting Ms Olha and I have not heard back yet. Hang in there.

Can confirm that overtime at the terminals have been drying up.

Yea I think we’ve seen the end of the mass hiring and classes and it’s going to slow down going forward and prob only a couple classes this year at most. Especially if they exhausted the current list and have requested a new certified list from DCAS

Did my pre employment on 11/08. List #58××.  Wonder what the chances are that they will recertify the list and keep hiring...

Been trying to get in touch with Ms. Olha but no luck. I have ex-classmates that are saying things are pretty filled rn and board jobs are actually clearing without picking up a job which has been some time since that was happening. I’m guessing this year might be very minimal amount of classes untiL this exam officially expires. Keep some hopes up

Hi, I Hope everyone is doing well and congratulations to the newly appointed  T/Os.

As for the people still going through the pre employment process, I just got off the phone with the employment center 347-643-8217. I was told that as of right now it's no scheduled upcoming classes. Transit has to send the test back out to the city to get re-certified (meaning, for additional classes).

The lady also informed me that this test Is valid until September 2023, So keep your hopes up and stay positive.

Hey praying this is true and thanks for the info. Been waiting for transit to get the re-certified list from DCAS as I was reinstated to the list last summer confirm by Ms. Vargas at 23** so hoping to be called soon then

This is data you can readily retrieve. Using this link https://data.cityofnewyork.us/City-Government/Civil-Service-List-Certification/a9md-ynri

Click View Data, let it load, on the right side you will see a search bar that says "Find In This Data Set", there enter the exam you are looking for with a 0 in front of it, ex 7604 would be 07604, at that point it will filter the data to that exam [it's not always super accurate, so I would then suggest using the Filter tab, add a filter condition of again the Exam Number. You will notice the returned data sets will have a column labeled "Request Date" now the next thing to do is to click Export & export the data to CSV/Excel & open it up in Excel, there you can filter & sort by the dates to see exactly how often they certify/request out of DCAS for any exam. Hope that helps a bit, if you don't have excel, likely it could open in some other programs like OpenDocs or any online spreadsheet program.

So I was looking at the certifications dates compared to certifications expire dates and they are only about 1-2 months apart. I don’t think a list gets certified that often from what they told me at transit and DCAS but here’s to hoping it does lol

  17. Anyone know how often they certify the lists from DCAS? And possibly when the next certification will be?

No one at transit or DCAS is helping with this question. Trying to see if someone here has better knowledge of the list certifications. Thanks

I’m in the exact situation as you. I was placed on medical hold due to me having to do a sleep study. It resulted that I had to use a CPAP machine for 30 days. I finally got my medical clearance on Friday so I schedule my appointment for yesterday to have my medical hold released (which it was released) then I was called by Ms. Olha and she told me that they could not continue with my application because DCAS had removed my name from the list. That I had to email DCAS so my name could be reinstated. Instead of emailing DCAS I went to the DCAS office in Manhattan and they had reinstated my name and that I had to wait until MTA went through the current list and when they get the new list I’d be on it. I was also told that the exam was extended.

Thanks for the info, yea sounds like we might have to wait a bit but we should be top of the next certified list from DCAS and maybe we’ll be in the same class once we’re called. I’ll have some good info for whoever is in the same class with me lol

wth so now you have no job until next year?

I’m hoping someone from DCAS or Olha gets back to me, I mean I’m still with my old job and I can stay here long term if I wanted to but I don’t want to lol they not giving me anymore bonuses and no retirement package either. So worst case I can wait it out but still was hoping to get back to TO this year

oh wow! They are really making you redo the whole schoolcar although you just graduated a few months ago?? Maybe they just make you take a refresher course?

So I had someone from the employment office tell me even after being reinstated to the list I won’t get called again until next year because I’m not on the current DCAS list they received. I’m trying Ms Olha and emailing DCAS back to see if this was accurate cuz that would suck if it is true.

I only went back for the bonus and my job knew I’d leave again but was helping them out until I officially need to leave again just couldn’t pass up that dough you know. Lol
