Pretty good chances I’d say, they’re about 1 in 3 of the A fleet needed. Personally when I went to Rockaway Blvd, first time I saw 2 R211s head towards the Rockaways before my train came (an R46) and saw 2 more getting uptown before I got off at Cortlandt. Second time, this weekend with work being done on Fulton express the first train was an R211.

The fact that the open gangway trains are only going to run on a subway line that doesn't have high ridership is a huge setback and defeats the purpose of having open gangway trains.
It is also an indication that moving forward the MTA will only stick to purchasing standard trains.

We’re not sure about anything besides what it’s replacing yet, but the reasonable answer would be no since as far as we can see, the MTA wants everything to be as standardized as possible. Examples: R143, R160, R179, R211 are all 60 feet and can run on the Myrtle, Jamaica, and Canarsie lines since they’re short enough to not clip other trains, and they can have cars removed from their sets to put them into passenger service on the mentioned lines. We won’t see the MTA experiment for a while…

All this adds up to quite a lot of opportunities to build up service gaps that are hard to recover from.

I always think of an alternate reality where Brooklyn grew to be much denser and Fulton St was somewhat akin to Queens Blvd. A new tunnel in Manhattan would've needed to have been built, my guess is using the existing Court St station. It's just weird to think how both IND Fulton St line and IND QBLVD line are both quad-tracked IND lines in the outer-boroughs, yet they've diverged so much in terms of ridership.

The SI R44s stayed having flat wheels due to leaf season in the fall and early winter. I wonder how the R211s will handle those conditions.

and besides, Kawasaki slapped catenary equipment onto an R62 for testing, I’m sure they could come up with something for the R211s if they were actually using it

For non electrical railroads, the R160s and R179s will have to put special trucks with one square box on top of A cars, while B cars lose ALL propulsions. The B cars would be “trailers”.

the SIR runs on third rail just like the rest of the system and I’m pretty sure I can still hear propulsion coming from the R44 B cars, along with the fact that it’s mostly flat, I’m sure the R160s and/or R179s could easily handle their B cars turned into trailers
