I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you have a problem with what he said about short people, just wait until you deal with dispatchers everyday. School car has the best behaved supervisors. The real job? Not so much. Now that's not everybody, 80% of the people at least are decent to deal with. But the other 20%? Oh boy

Your opinion is your opinion, And your right, maybe 20% of the workers have no respect for others. At the end of the day,it wasn’t something I wanted to hear after failing at something I wanTed so bad..as I said it is what it is

Wow! Sorry to hear this! What top bar are you referring to?

So there is the first step which is about 3 to 4 inches off the ground..once you manage to reach that, there is like two more bars on the train where you pull yr self up.I was good to go for the first two, but that last bar at the top,I was like an inch or two away from reaching it, ,it’s also referred as  3 points of contact..if your tall you have absolutely nothing to worry about ..but if yr short like me,..we’ll just pray I guess..I think what hurt me more is when one of the supervisors, not sure of his name..Asian guy, seems to be a nice guy,but his words stung me the most..he was like they have all you short people waiting for so many years to get your shot at being a conductor, the most they could do is check everyone height before they actually take the test..

yeah he hurt my soul,,but it’s all good,I’m back on the restoration list, hoping that I get called again, and hoping that I can get on the A side..if not then hey,I guess it wasn’t meant to be..but again good luck to everyone, stay positive

  3. It’s hard getting difficult news..I got disqualified because I couldnt reach the top bar on the train..I felt like they could of gave me a chance on the smaller trains, but I got the boot instead..it sucks, and I’m not giving up..put my name back on the restoration list..we shall see what happens..good luck everyone

The TSS will let you step on the rail to give you a "boost" but the B division trains are higher then the A. If you're in the B division and can't climb the train they'll give you a chance on the A. There are short people in transit so I'm sure you can do it!

Thank you for the info..been waiting how ever long to get this job/career,don’t want something like not being able to climb the train mess me up.thanks again

Day 4: School Car for Conductors

For Day 4 we were at P.S 248 and we got our PPE equipment (Vest, gloves, safety glasses). We also got to go to the Coney Island train yard and do the climb test for all conductors! The trains are huge on the track in comparison to when you’re on the station. I believe we climbed a R68, but all 50+ Conductors passed the climb but one which I’m sure they’ll make it on the A division train soon. After that we just did some review for our first quiz tomorrow on the 38 rules.

I’m nervous about the climbing part..I’m on the short side, about 5ft..about how tall from the ground is that first step?
