Forgive me for being ignorant on this matter, but why are people suggesting the R179s would leave the (A)(C) in the first place upon the arrival of more R211s? I fail to see a reason for this, although it's probably my ignorance.

Its alright, anyways theres a few reasons.

    1. To make the (C) 100% full length and to not have a mix of 8 cars and 10 cars in the near future.

    2. The R179 fleet, specifically the 10 car ones is a small fleet so its gonna be an oddball fleet. Though tbf the 10 car R179s may be oddballs no matter where they go, due to how little 10 car R179s there are. (Only 13 full 10 car sets iirc).

Obviously theres little to no confirmation that they'll leave the (A) and (C) , but we'll have to wait and see. But those are some of the main reasons I can think of.

IMO, it’s pretty good in many sections like 86 Street through 8 Avenue, 59 Street through Atlantic Avenue–Barclays Center, the Manhattan Bridge through 34 Street, and the 60 Street Tunnel. BMT curves and switches just suck, but the (N) is a pretty good route for the physical infrastructure it’s got to navigate.

My thoughts exactly, the BMT can also be pretty good too. It might be just me but I swear like half the transit community always roasts the BMT more than it really deserves, especially when some of the issues it has is the same on the IRT and IND.

I remember riding an (N) from QB plaza to Brooklyn and my T/O hauled the entire way, didn't feel slow at all. Despite how sharp many BMT curves are, trains can still go surprisingly fast on them lol. (Atlantic Ave. curve and 38 st. portal for example).

  3. IMO, If we're talking about giving Fulton street a new local service, I think building a short connection from Montague to Hoyt-Schermerhorn and letting the (W) handle Fulton local would be better, sorta like a Brooklyn version of the 21st. connection. (W)'s end at Whitehall already so it would just be a simple extension to Euclid Ave. (Ik this idea was proposed before).

I just had a thought. Observing the ridership trends on Queens Blvd, it doesn’t seem like the (M) train is as full as it could be, but yet service between 6 Av Stations and Brooklyn seems well utilized. Why doesn’t transit consider the following changes

    1. Split rush hour (M) service between 96 St/2 Av and Forest Hills-71 Av (keep the 71 Av trips via the 53 St tunnel), so that way each (M) branch runs every 12 minutes during peak times. Midday service can be every 8 minutes (again either split to 96 St and 71 Av), or keep every 10 minutes and all trips to 96 St. Evening service until 10PM to 96 St and run weekend service there too. Night service can stay at Myrtle Av.

    2. Swap the (F)(M) during the (M)s Queens Blvd hours of operation then swap the (F) to 63 St all other times.

it Just seems that the (M) isn’t as busy and having the service suspended for 7 months showed that the (E)(F)(R) can handle Queens Blvd for the most part with not as much (M) service on that end of the line, but the 6 Av-to-Metropolitan Av section needs at the very least the service it’s getting, if not more.

    1. I feel like doing all of this would be pretty messy and confusing on many levels: riders perspectives, additional interlining etc. Altho I agree (M) should continue to 6th Ave on weekends, whether to Forest Hills or 96 st. ( (F) trains really needs that help on weekends in my experience lol)

    2. Pretty sure this was discussed a lot in the 63rd st closure thread. As much as I think letting (M) run to Forest hills on weekends can reduce the late night switcheroo confusion a little but idk.

    3. I have some doubts about that, both (E) and (F) on 53rd, probably, but the (R) is well known for many common issues, so itll need the help, even if riders doesn't take the (M) on QBL local as much as other routes.

Via rail and car float, or is that long past?

Personally, I kind of wish the sets coming from Nebraska were delivered this way but its trucked halfway across the country one by one rn. I assume the reason they're not delivered by rail is because either costs, Class I freights being sucky as usual or some other logistical issue. But idk lol.

  6. That noise is due to the el structures being made of steel and the way the tracks are directly bolted to the steel. Not to mention the F train's curve.

Maybe dampeners in the track or sound barriers (covering the entire structure to be effective) could be installed to reduce this.

But unless if the entire el structure is rebuilt with concrete or magically buried underground (which neither will ever happen because of costs and topography), then the noise will continue to persist in some way.

Be safe to everyone riding transit from A to B. There was a second dispute that happened on the (4) train but, it was a stabbing that took place at 167 St Station.

At this point the Jerome El is cursed or something lol. First a killing at 170 or 176 st. a few months back, then teens shooting each other at Mt. Eden Ave., then a freaking severed leg being discovered near 167 st. and now this.

Damn i heard of this from discord but I didnt know it was actually true.

Interesting this happened right after the pilot to install "barriers" between the T/O's and the passengers started at 125 st. (4) (5) (6)

Yeah some conquestors apparently broke into the back cab of one of them and changed it to an L program (it got taken out of service).

Just curious, Is there proof of this? Because most of what i've been hearing is that its a glitch.

Also if conquesters really did change it, then shouldn't the entire train be signed as (L) last stop? Iirc it was only 4055-9 signed as (L), while 4045-9 was signed correctly.

Decisions as to which yards cars are assigned to is made by the Division of Car Equipment.   Yes, the above lines are part of the Queens District but RTO does not make the decision as to which yard (in this case Jamaica Yard) the R211T's will be assigned.  That's all on Car Equipment.

Ah I see, thanks for letting me know.

Yeah thats unsurprising but I don't blame them lol.

Anyway to get this back onto topic it appears that train crews who work on the lines that serve the Queens district are being called to get qualified on the R211.

If im not mistaken, the queens district are (E) (F) (G) trains right? If so, then i think this implies that the R211T might run on the (E) and/or (F) . Maybe.

I just find it very pathetic that there are people in social media that are excited and practically celebrating because the r211's are removed from service.

I even saw someone on Facebook spreading the false rumor that the r32's are returning to service.

I just hope that these knuckleheads realize that the r211's will return to service (it's a matter of when) and that they will become the most reliable subway fleets just like the r179's.

There will always be those kinds of people everytime a new train is introduced. Im sure this kind of attitude existed with the previous NTTs and continue to exist with future trains.

Maybe a time machine should be invented just to send those kinds of people to the 1970s and leave them there lol. /j

Some days I wonder if it would be easier if we just built the damn things in house…

Come to think of it… Create more local jobs, create the possibility of bidding on contracts from other agencies.

    not that bad an idea.

Yeah I also have the same feeling for things like station renovations, installing cbtc, trackwork etc.

Imo, I feel like the mta relies so much on contractors for everything that it feels like the mta doesn't even do anything in house. Especially when relying on them too much can and has caused many issues and delays in various projects from what I can tell. (Not to mention corruption lol).

Does anyone know if all R211 sets are running everyday, or are they starting to take 1 out as a "spare" as the R211 fleet grows?

If i'm not mistaken, i think it kinda varies everyday. Some days 5 sets will be running, other days 6 sets etc.

  15. Yeah i was disappointed when the score for the rockaway beach branch was low :/ . Also I'm curious to know how they evaluated the utica ave subway options. Is it assumed to be completely underground or partly elevated? etc. Because if its fully underground then i can see where these bloated prices came from. But then again im not surprised that many of these estimates are kinda bs imo lol.

the 211’s for the SIR could’ve been modified for SIR specifically instead of having everything the 211A sets has

Yeah this was what I was thinking. Just adapting the R211S to better fit the nature of the SIR (Ex: changing the seating layout to latitutional like the RR's) is way more realistic and less complicated than converting R143s or R160s IMO lol.

You know, I keep on hearing stuff about the 8 car sets being sent to ENY but does ENY even need, or can even hold that many 8 car sets?

Don't mind me dropping some quick Queenslink advocacy here but, those extra 8 car trains can certainly be used for that project lol. Even if its not enough R211 option order 2 with those 4 car sets can also help too.

  18. This morning when taking the (F) northbound, the auto announcements said "This is a manhattan bound (F) train" instead of the usual "(F) local train" announcement. This only happened between Bergen st to York st though. Later when going home a different northbound (F) train said the normal announcements. I can't remember the car numbers but it was like 96xx.  Just thought that was interesting.

Just can’t stand seeing my home line filled with nothing but R46s. Keeps me from taking the train, and restricting myself to other transportation modes, even to meet up with friends or family, or commute to/from work. Why can’t they run even one R160 and I can time my commutes around the scheduled? They do it with the (Q) daily, so surely they have enough equipment to do so for the (N) too.

Damn your hatred for the R46 is that huge huh. As someone that lives on west end (D) for basically my entire life, im used to riding old trains lol. Sure it sucks going from riding new trains daily to riding the oldest trains in the system within a year but lifes never fair. Even I miss riding R160s on the (N) and (Q) . But we have no choice but to have some patience until option 1 and/or 2 of r211's to maybe see NTT's on those lines again.

I believe this was the set that was had major graffiti on it and this is the aftermath of it.

Oh dear, the Jamaica R160's also has lots graffiti issues. I remember looking at Jamaica yard on google maps and like 3 or 4 full sets were completely graffitied on one side. Even after cleaning, i still see some amount of pink, purple or neon green on the f train especially in the sun lol.

And since you refuse to stop with your nonsense in this thread, your privileges have been revoked

Omg thank you so much lmao. Ever since this kid stated that elevators at curbs will cause car crashes and other garbage posted in other threads, I already knew he was full of shit and was most likely a troll or living in his own fantasies lol.

Anyways, nice to see the r211T still testing and such, excited to see it running soon.
