  1. No, this forum thread is for simply replicas of these signs. You can even request fictional route signs. The (MTA) places the platform signs at every side of a platform with tracks. The NTT subway cars come build in with LED displays and older cars come with side rollsigns to show destinations.

Thanks. I thought (MTA) took care of the internal, and external signage. So what do you, and others do with these replicas? Personal collections?

  2. Exterior signs on New York City subway cars are used to show the northern and southern/eastern and western destinations, and on NT trains, they also show via what street or area of the city they go through. Interior displays, only found on NT trains, show the destination of the train, the next stop, and the time. Strip maps and FIND systems only found on NT trains list all the stops along the line. Overhead platform signs show the direction of where the trains at that platform go, and what trains stop there. Station signs show the station name and the trains that stop there.

Thanks Tonyboy515 for the quick reply. So MTA doesn't offer these signs, or have a dedicated department to make them? It's on us to make our own? Is that right? What's a NT train?

  3. When it comes to schoolcar you will be going to different train yards every day and you will be spending a lot of time in the classroom learning all of the signals. I just passed my signals exam today, so the more time that you spend in the classroom going over the signals the better.

I passed my medical on April 6 and I was placed in the April 11th class. I had my name reinstated on the list because when my name was reached on the list in 2013 I had just started my 10 day training as a bus operator. Since I was a bus operator for the MTA prior to accepting the train operator title, this was treated as a promotion for me. I didn't have to resign from being a bus operator.

Congratulations on passing the signals exam! One step closer.

Thanks for all that you shared. I appreciate it, and it will definitely help. I was medically cleared today, and now looking forward to the email with the start date for school car. I'm looking forward to it, and expecting it to be challenging.

  4. Thanks feel free to ask me any questions.

You're welcome. Okay - thanks. Once you were medically cleared, how soon after were you told you were accepted into school car? What were their expectations? Did you have time to announce your resignation to your former employer?

    Thanks again. Truly appreciate it.

  5. Just be patient bx316. This job is definitely worth the wait. I'm currently going through schoolcar so if you have any questions when you start feel free to ask.

@LOQV, Hope everything's going well. I'm currently on medical hold for a Train Operator, and hoping I'm accepted into the next class. If you don't mind, what's it like so far? Thanks!

  6. Alright, so since im a Graphic Designer, I thought I could bring my talent here. So, the only requestable sign at the Moment is R188 Signs , R160 Signs, and R142 signs. Please note: The font for the R188 , R142 and R160 signs is not mine, so the credit goes to the author!

    Hi Javier,

Thanks for posting this topic. I'm new to the forum, and currently being considered for a Train Operator position. I'm also in the design field, and appreciate your work. Since I haven't started school car training, I'm not familiar with these signs. How are they used? Where are they used? Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work.
