  1. Thanks trainman! My list range is high 28xx.

Thanks AAnxious! Do they ask about surgeries or any other diseases?

Surgeries. You bet. Every question imaginable will be asked.

Get a full physical if you have insurance. If you don't, make sure you know your BP numbers (drug stores have machines in the pharmacy departments), go get an eye exam (cohens has them for $20), a hearing test would help, (there are Ipad apps for this) and test your urine with strips if you can (for blood, protein and sugar.) Those are the main things that get people put on hold.

  2. Like I said before it's roughly 1500 if you claim 0 dependents. That includes union dues and medical contributions for 40 hours of pay. 1500 and change ballpark after taxes. A few of my classmates have many dependents. They said their check was in the 1800 range after taxes. As for what RTOPRO said he's right though. Many factors will play a part in how much you will get. If you elect 401k or disability or many other deductions that electives can change that number. I personally file 1 dependent and only have union dues and medical contribution coming out of my check. I also have a PM tour for school car so I average around 50 hours of night diff Every two weeks. My take home after all that is 1641. A check. So you could either round up or down based on your own personal preference based on what you will elect. Hope that helped clarify things a bit more.

    Thanks again.

Did you take your signal exam yet?

  3. Hello to all!

First time here. I received my first letter and went to Livingston St to take my drug test. When I get the call for medical what questions are asked verbally or on paper and what in the physical exam is checked example EKG...

    Thanks,

    VinnySea

There is a questionnaire of about 50 questions. Do you smoke, drink, had a seizure, an STD, etc.

Physical exam is Hearing, Vision, Blood Pressure, EKG, Urine for protein, sugar and blood.

  4. The reason most of the employees (including RTOman) post here is to HELP the new people.

There is an expression that has been used for a very long time in transit when it comes to the new people: EACH ONE TEACH ONE

Many of us believe in that.

I assume you are new to schoolcar since you're asking about the check - and therefore haven't received the first one yet, so I'm going to give you a good bit of friendly advice. As you go through schoolcar, much of what is taught will be based off of things that have happened down here over the years. Many have involved probationary employees and they serve as a cautionary tale since many of them are no longer with Transit. So the employees that post here do so with the intent of helping new people AVOID the pitfalls that so many fall into very early on. The fact that these incidents keep happening year after year despite all the awareness of them is proof positive that new people are not "above" the pitfalls. But as you will see, neither are senior men and women either. It's not easy coming from "off the street" into any RTO title, and being humble works. The whole "I got this" thing and having attitude seems to work great until one day it doesn't...trust me I've seen it blow up in some people's faces.

Not all of the pitfalls are job related. One of the worst is people living above their means, so it's completely understandable someone may not want to mislead you about how much money you'll actually be taking home. There are numerous people down here who have ZERO life beyond work because they have to work every single RDO they can, constantly work late clears, play every trick in the book to get as much overtime as possible, and pick 10 hour penalty jobs just to make ends meet...yet they still can't, and their take home is almost nothing.

During schoolcar you will gross approximately $30.03 x 40 hours per week = a little over $1200 a week x 2 weeks = $2400 gross approx. per check. You will not get overtime or late clears during schoolcar, nor will you be eligible to work your RDOs (regular days off), which during schoolcar will be Sunday/Saturday. You will have taxes come out, any contributions that you make pre or post tax to the 401k plan or 457 plan if you enrolled, or any other plans like life insurance or extra disability insurance (if you signed up for Aflac). You will also have $27.06 come out per check until the raise goes into effect for union dues, 1.5% comes out for healthcare, and a percentage (I don't know the number for tier 6) will come out for your pension contribution as well. If you're paying alimony or child support, that comes out too. Whatever's left after that is yours. Good luck and keep an open mind.

    Thats how you give advice.

    Thank You.

  5. Guys chill... Lol.. Example: See how a fight can start with "A QUESTION" being asked. You both meant well, just a big misunderstanding. Squash the matter....

It's not a misunderstanding. This dude has a habit of offering unsolicited douche sprinkled, troll like advice and opinions when no one asked for it. He also likes to put all the newbies in one block, like we're all incapable of reading comprehension. It's not the first time. and I'm sure it won't be the last.

  6. I didn't say they couldn't post it right?

Never said it was difficult I just asked for clarification.

I also said everybody tax situation is different meaning it's not just 1500 bucks either.

See part of this job is paying attention to what is said to you.

So you won't misunderstand and put the wrong things on a G2 or,if RCC asks you a question on the phone or radio(which are recorded btw).

Remember that bit of advice. Quite a few new folks are getting tripped up just on that alone. Which is a shame.

Lets get a few things straight:

    1. I never said that YOU said that they couldn't post it. Re-read the original post. Misunderstanding #1.

    2. Clarification means that you are having a hard time understanding what was said, which can be understood as being a difficult. Mard answered my question, without all the nonsene you are communicating, so apparently it didn't need to be "clarified". I also never asked for a specific tax bracket, I was looking for a ball park figure, as some people may not want to disclose that information.

    3. While sometimes you offer a wealth of information, you come off as being a bit of a deutxbag. I pray to god I don't run into you underground.

    4. Nobody asked you to chime in about G2's or what RCC does, that has NOTHING to do with the question I asked. You are drawing way too many conclusions from a generic question, and appear to lump all newbies into one pot. I don't know you from a can of corn, so who are you to make the assumption that I wouldn't know how to understand potential orders given from superiors based on what others are failing to do?

    5. Unless you are in schoolcar, I'm not even talking to you, so why reply?

  7. Everybody's tax situation is different, maybe you need to clarify your question.

I don't see how asking someone to post what they've  make in school car after taxes is such a difficult question. Other people have asked in this thread and no one has offered that information, like it's some huge secret.

  8. After urine test is there one more drug test? Would that be the last one?

1st Drug test when called, then if they don't call you again within 90 days, you have to take a second drug test. During medical there is another urine test done on site to test for protein, blood and sugar in urine.

  9. Got a call yesterday to come in today instead of Monday.

Medical was easy breezy, and moved fast. The doctor didn't even do half the things people explained here. 2 minutes with her, I couldn't believe it. Saw a few get put on hold. Final Processing was fast too. To all those who are waiting. GET THERE EARLY. Your ticket # means EVERYTHING. Contrary to belief, you are called in the order of arrival.

I was in at 6:45 and out by 11:45, all the employees are very professional and know their stuff.

Good luck to the rest of you and I'll see some of ya on June 30th.

    List 251x

  10. I got my letter smile.gif I go on june 20 730am list 30xx, I am nervous about the hearing test. I have a problem with my right ear I can hear from it but its not as good as the left, how long does it usually take from the first drug test to final processing?

    For me it was:

    Initial Letter for 1st D/T: 2/14

    Second D/T: 6/4

    Med/Final Processing: 6/16

    List # 251x

If you have an Iphone (not sure about Android) there are some free hearing apps you can download to test youself. I would make sure you have some beats by dre or bose like headphones and sit in a quiet room. You must have an average hearing loss, in one ear, less than or equal to 40 decibels (dB).

Edit: I'd also get a physical if you have health insurance, or go to a Minute clinic and get one done there for about $80 if you don't. Also, get some urinalyisis strips off Amazon, and test your urine for blood, sugar and protein. You want NO suprises on the medical. Blood pressure must be below 140/90 and the eyes must be 20/40.

  11. I know I'm only going for my DT tomorrow, but man I'm nervous.

Don't be nervous. If you know you are clean, there is nothing to worry about. It's an easy 10 panel DOT drug test. This will be your first of many visits to 180. Words of advice: GET. THERE. EARLY. Like 6:45 early so you can be the first one to get a ticket. Every time i've been I got A103, which means I was the 3rd person seen for drug test. Even with that, I was still out of there around 10:45. I can't imagine those people who actually showed up at 7:30, they must be there all day.

  12. I'm sort of confused, with the letter they sent me, on the paperwork, do they want employment history twice or is that the extra page to use if you need it? Want to make sure to get all my paperwork right.

    #27XX

    It's an extra page.

oh no, I wear corrective lenses. Contact lenses to be exact. I havent worn glasses in 10 years & the only pair I have are exactly that old too. I wonder if that will cause any problems with the eye exam.

    #27XX

Get an eye test, Cohens does them for $20, or Costco for $60 with some lens discounts if you need them.

Wear the contacts, they will test you with and without them. 20/40 vision is the qualifying number.

  13. I just got my letter for my 2nd drug test!!! Finally....

    Congrats AAnxious!

LeonDoub you're up next, I should be right behind you!

Thanks Grey. What's your list #.

    Great news. Congrats!

    Hopefully me - next week.

    Good weekend everyone!

    # 258x

Thanks Leon. Who knows, you may make it into the June Class. From second DT to Final Processing in a week, for me, iit's very possible for you.

  14. I will post FRI after going through the second D/T and physical examination.

I missed it in the letter.... I thought it was for the second D/T only. I guess it will be physical as well.

Even though the letter says medical, it's really the second drug test only. You will see this when you go Friday. Medicals get phone calls. I did my second drug test today.

    List # 251x

  15. What's crazy is my list number is 2602 guessed I had months to go. Unless ppl in front of me failed the dt or didn't take the job. I took the dt back in Feb hour it's not for the dt all over again.

Interesting. I know a few people in the early 2500's who haven't gotten anything, including myself. I'll be watching the mail.

  16. Has anyone else thats still waiting for final processing receive another job offer letter? I'm pretty sure it's a mistake but will call this week to find out. Shouldn't be necessary to fill out all that paperwork again

This is a good thing. It means they've reached your number/group. What does your report date say?

When/if your drug test expires, most of the time transit will send you the employment offer letter again (sometimes they will call), because on the back end of the process, you have to go through the initial process again, which includes a second lab. I saw this when I went for initial processing. There were a few whose drug test expired and the HR person gave specific instructions for those who have recieved a second letter, but have already come down to do the first drug test and fill out paper work.

The good news is that you won't have to fill out everything again, just the paper that says "have you had a DOT drug test before," and you'll list NYCT as the tester (they will give you instructions on how to do this.)

One of two things, or both will happen:

    1. You will go through the second drug test (first part of the day) and Medical (second part of the day) on the same date;

    2. When your drug test comes back in a few days, if negative, you will be called back down for final processing and given a start date, most likely June 30th.

  17. They are past the 2400's. There is someone in my current class in the low 2500's if that helps.

Impossible. I had a lovely conversation with Ms. Shivers yesterday. The last appointed was 2409. She said for me to expect a call in 2-3 weeks.
