  1. I think one way we can boost the Q26's ridership is having it terminate and originate with the Q27, combining the Q26 and Q27 into one stop at 39th Avenue, because a lot of people who are able to use the Q26 choose to take the Q27 instead. The Q26 can follow the Q65 along Kissena and Sanford and continue down Parsons on its current route. Q26 midday service can be restored, and all of this is going to relieve the severe crowds on the 27.

  2. I think that Q17 service should be fixed on the weekends.

Every other or every third 17 going to/from Flushing should short turn at HHE and 188th Street, similar to what the Q27 does.

This is because one problem with the 17 is that it gets absolutely packed on Kissena and practically empty on 188th. Also, it clumps in threes and fours on 188th Street all the time.

  3. AWW you killed it I was having too much fun  . To boost QM ridership and speed up Q88. Q88 gets a LTD rush hour peak direction only. AM towards rego park PM towards queens village. Q88 LTD

    • These stops all stops in rego park to 108th then next stop Main street

    • Kissena blvd

    • utopia parkway

    • 188th@73rd

    • frances lewis blvd

    • 213th st

    • Springfield blvd

    • union tpk then hillside all stops on braddock. Reroute Q88 to cover that Q1 portion.

More service added to Q36/43 allowing LTD fulltime. Q1 can get axed or reduced to rush but only if Q88 gets better reliability. All Q88s make ltd stops on springfield blvd use Q27 for local stops except rush hour.

QM5 at off peak and reverse adds stops at rego park running over QM10 routing 63rd dr towards LIE service rd to manhattan. Then non stop to 164th making LTD stops to springfield blvd continues on original routing to glen oaks. Local passengers excepted at LTD stops in queens except rush hour PEAK Peak remains closed door due to High ridership. BUT if Q88 ridership at the mid stops continues to rise then Q88 LTD becomes full time and QM5 goes back to original route. But ridership would really have to show. Manhattanbound outside rush it's enforced by telling the driver your destination you dip card to disembark and embark if you choose manhattan. This won't apply to queens bound as driver will simply switch farebox after last manhattan pickup so local fare is enforced. However this only can be done on a few lines in BM and QM but not in SI (except lines with no alternative partially) or the bronx due extremely high manhattan bound ridership during off peak. QM20 will stop 34th for transfer to downtown service after becoming downtown service.

If QM5 gains new ridership and manhattan bound riders more service added. If only local then Q88 gains more service to LTD.

Does X68 need fulltime service? If so would extending QM4 help cover hillside?

I'm confused, but I believe that the Q88 is fine as it is.

  4. The Q17 does not need weekend LTD service. That route is empty because everyone uses the Q25 and the Q65. The Q25 and Q65 should be considered first for daily LTD service, as well as the Q5. The Q85 doesn't need Sunday LTD service, but it could use Saturday LTD service.

According to statistics, the Q17 got

22,382 weekly weekend riders in 2011. The Q25 and Q65 received 18,857 riders and 14,668 riders, respectively. I never said that the 17 needed daily LTD service, but I'm just letting you know that the Q17 gets crowded everyday, but not at every point of its route or every time of the day.

  5. With the Q17, at least in Jamaica, it is very frequent and doesn't get very crowded often in the rush hour from what I have seen... Does it get more crowded towards Flushing?

I already know about the Q25 lol... oh boy.. I am going from Jamaica to Flushing with some peeps this week and I am def avoiding the 25 and looking to catch the 44 or 65 (I am orion 5 hunting lol)

Yes, the Q17 is frequent, but not very reliable. Usually, when I wait for a Flushing-bound 17 at the 182nd Street and Hillside Avenue bus stop on an early weekday afternoon, I need to wait for approximately 12 minutes, and usually at least five other buses come before the Q17.

Once, my friends and I had to wait for 45 minutes. Granted, it was raining pretty hard, which might have caused delays, but four Q43's, and basically at least two buses from every other bus route came by before the Q17 did. It was quite unpleasant.

And yeah, the Q25 totally needs LTD service on weekends, or at least more service. The Q65 needs more service too.

Both routes get packed along Kissena Blvd. It's not uncommon for the bus to be so full, that people need to temporarily get off the bus in order for others to get on and insert their metrocard.

The Q17 pretty much empties along HHE and 188th Street, so I see why the it doesn't look so full in Jamaica.

  6. I have brought this idea up before, but not in this thread...

IMO I think the Q5/Q85 should have some type of saturday LTD service.. Shorter than weekday LTD service though (like maybe 4-7pm, for instance. On weekdays, the last Q85 LTD to Rosedale leaves Jamaica at 8:45). I say this because, whenever I take them on the weekends in the PM hours they get very crowded.. LTD service could speed everything up.. Even at like 9-10pm, the 2 routes get very crowded on weekdays AND saturdays.. But that is just my opinion...

Same thing with the Q17 and Q25.

  7. I made an extension of the Q33 + A few other routes:

    http://goo.gl/maps/zhPuQ

I can't comment on the Q33, since I'm not familiar with it.

Q30A: Totally Unnecessary, considering how tight money is.

Q74: Booth Memorial will not attract an adequate amount of ridership, and most people who go from Fresh Meadows to QC take the Q17 or Q88, or walk there, which I did once, round-trip.

Q78: This is a hot mess. You're better off with extending the Q26 to Hollis Hills Terrace, which I do not recommend either. Also, unless you make Laburnum/Oak/Pigeon Meadow/Lithonia one-way streets, bus maneuvering will be painful.

  8. The Q25 and Q65 need more service on weekends. Waiting for the Q65 is a pain in the ass on any day of the week, and they're often crowded. There are times during weekend afternoons where the Jamaica-bound Q25 is so crowded along Kissena, that people need to lean on the front "dashboard" of the bus. We can say the same thing with the Jamaica-bound Q17, but the 17 simply never follows its schedule. Plus, that sidewalk from the HHE to Booth Mem. Ave. on 164th Street needs to be wider, although this is off-topic.

In addition, regarding the Q74, I still support my Q14 idea from long ago.

  9. No thats silly, If that was the case most routes would have it.

Ikr... Perhaps it's to tell New York visitors from JFK that the Q3 goes to a subway station in Jamaica, but most visitors wouldn't know that much about the NYC transit bus system, and the majority of tourists and immigrants use taxis or private buses, or the Airtrain.

*]Maybe a route from Flushing Loop to college point, extra Q25 service

Build a new Flushing Transit Center, seriously, maybe on 39 Avenue and Side streets buses enter only so the bunching wouldn't happen

There's still a ton of traffic on side streets, and the farther you terminate away from the station, the crankier people get. Also, I'm not totally in favor in adding another Flushing-College Point route, especially if it imitates the Q25. Also, the Q25 should not be split, if that's what you're suggesting. Some C.P.-Flushing trips should do the trick.

  10. The 27 doesn't need extra service... The fact that some of us are suggesting the 26 help out the 27 b/w Qcc & flushing is to relieve crowding on that route.....

I agree. (I know that I'm being bipolar, but w/e.)

The Q27 and the revised Q30 provide adequate enough service to QCC. Although the Q27 will still be overcrowded and clump like hell, there's only so much we can do to help it. Thus, I take back everything I have stated about extending the Q26.

  11. - Too many unnecessary turns between kew gardens & flushing for what you're suggesting (your "Q14" or w/e)...

For all of that, you may as well have 20b's run between union tpke. subway station (old Q74 terminal) & college point (via 14th av)....

    - You move the Q76 away from the mall & you defeat the purpose of the route even going to college point....

    - How much service do you plan on giving whitestone ?

-I'm trying to have the line go around Queens College like the previous 74 did, but maybe you're right. It would probably be unnecessary.

Also, I'm trying to give a supplement for Q34 service and old Q14 service, so the Q34 and Q15A could be discontinued.

-The Q76 go to 20th Avenue via. 132nd St. and terminate at the mall.

    - It will operate every 10 minutes during A.M. rush, 25 minutes during Noon, 13 minutes during P.M. rush, and 20 minutes during the evening. Some rush hour buses can terminate at Flushing-Main Street from Whitestone or Kew Gardens.

Correction: The old Q14 operated on weekends too, but I guess it could be discontinued,

  12. OKAY OKAY! Let's forget about. God.

How about the idea of heavily revising the Q20b, which I touched upon before? It could be renamed the Q14, which bridges the route number gap in the Q10s section, unless someone decides to discontinue the Q19. This new route replaces the Q14, Q34, and Q74. It will go from Whitestone:7 Avenue/Clintonville Street. to Kew Gardens: Queens Blvd. From K.G, it will run via the Q74 until 73rd Ave. where it will immediately turn right, followed by a left on 150th Street and a right on Melbourne Avenue, which allows people to go to THHS or Queens College. Then, it turns left on Kissena, followed by another left on Booth Memorial, making it easier to reach Queens Hospital from Kissena Blvd. After that, the Q14 turns right on Main Street, and continues down until Northern Blvd, where it takes a right. Then, it makes a left on Linden Pl., following the current Q34 route until Willets Point and 149th Street. Instead of taking 149th St. like the old Q14, the new one could take 150th Street, because riders who live close by to both streets don't have to risk missing a Q15 while waiting on 149th, or missing a Q14 while waiting on 150th, and neither bus have much service. The Q14 continues down until 7th Avenue, taking a right and terminating on Clintonville.

This could cause the Q34 and the Q15A to be discontinued. Also, the Q76 can go to College Point Blvd via. 14th and 15th Ave. instead of 20th Ave. to supplement for lost Q20b service, and they are both weekday-only so it's all good. Regarding that, the new Q14 could still run as a weekday-only bus because the original Q14, Q20b, Q34, and Q74s didn't/don't run on weekends. The Q20a could just be the Q20.

  13. How would that aggravate passengers? I wasn't aggravated when I went through there.

Plus, if you extend the Q26, you also have to think about future demand for weekend service, which the MTA can't afford right now.

It could be somewhat frustrating for some impatient people for the Q27 to turn around at QCC, as well as to crowd with a bunch of students from QCC and Cardozo. It's just my assumption.

  14. I'm back with a few more ideas:

Q17: I've also happened to notice some Northbound PM LTD's little under half full but I wouldn't eliminate them completely. Instead I'd just reduce the frequency to 9-10 min.

Q26/27: Short turn a small few Q27's to/from the Q26's path to eliminate retire/replace the route altogether (peak directions only during Rush Hours only).

It's better to get rid of P.M. rush hourly LTD service to Flushing on the Q17, because they are never full, and the Q27, with more ridership, does that as well (not having P.M. rush hour LTD service to Flushing).

Regarding short turning a few Q27's, I don't think it will be liked by people who can't read much English, because they would be surprised that it is going on Parsons Blvd instead of Kissena, or Hollis Court Blvd. instead of going on 47th Avenue.

This is the third time I've mentioned extending the Q26, but I think it could be extended to Queens Village via. Horace Harding and Bell Blvd, followed by Union Tpke and Springfield Blvd. to give riders a faster and less crowded trip to Flushing, and it could relieve some more crowding on the Q27 without passing through QCC, which is a place that could aggravate some passengers.

  15. Yes MTAFanBoy512,The Q20B instead of going to College Pt Blvd and 14 Ave it will just go to 149st and Whitestone. It runs weekdays anyway so I would give it a try

You should have it operate on Linden Place and go to Union St. via the current Q34 route going to 149th Street if you're going to discontinue the Q34.

I kind of think that the Q20B should cover both the Q74 route to Kew Gardens via. Vleigh Pl. and around Queens College, and the Q14 route to 7th Avenue, and the Q15A should be discontinued.
