  1. hi there...

so...for all those who start on sept 30th class....

i think 1st payday on oct is the 10th..correct?....if that is true and they keep 1week in...are there going to be ANY paychecks on the 10th ( if they take out fingerprinting/taxes/dues...etc...might owe $$ to MTA !!!! LOL ) or they will push it ALL into next paycheck?

  2. I just put the incident I had w a dui and I wound up getn my license susp in another state the case was dismissed no conviction..but in the 21 page booklet it asks about license susp so good thing I was upfront abt the incident I was just letting the incident be known in the pre interview comments section..the lady said w the court disposition they will sign off on it if it was a dismissal and take the whizz quiz same day..but ur right abt the above cpd -b statement

Never heard the term "Whizz Quiz". I like it. Good luck!

  3. A Div. is 85 working-days for schoolcar training. Right smack in the middle of that is three months of yard duty. The 3 months of yard duty isn't "posting". You will be yard qualified by then, and work on your own, more or less. That 3 month yard stint is however, separate from, and in addition to-- the 85 days. It's roughly 7 months in total. B Div. training is about 1-2 months longer, largely because of the additional equipment you will have to learn. A Div. uses two types of cars, while the B has 6 classes of rolling stock.

The July 29th class did in fact, contain 50 T/Os and 30 C/Rs. They were split into groups of 10; by title and division. Each group was assigned two TSSs (motor instructors.) As far as I know, C/R training is significantly shorter than T/O: about 6-8 weeks.

Being "released" is when you have successfully completed schoolcar and the associated yard duty. You are now yard and road qualified. You transition from "student" to "probationary" Train Operator. (Be advised, your training period counts towards your one-year probation. For example, a newly-minted A. Div. T/O will be on his/her-own as a probie for approximately five months. One year from your induction date (first day of orientation) and assuming your probation wasn't extended-- you have "secured your title".)

Hope I was able to answer some of your questions. Best of luck!

    this is great info...thank you

it looks like B div ppl will have only a couple of months b4 end of probation after school car / yard ends...cool....

  4. The July class was 50 T/O and 30 C/R, split into groups of 10 with 2 TSS's.

We got a schedule covering all of training except the three months in the yard since the crew office schedules that. We will be officially released March 2, 2014. It's going ok so far. Since I have previous knowledge of the basics it's actually been very slow and kind of boring for me. But it's only been two weeks so far. Once we get into the stuff i've never done it'll pick up.

Do the assigned reading, and if you have the time read some more. Don't do too much to confuse yourself, but keep up. Study signals everyday. I personally find it obnoxious when something (other than signals) has to be repeated a million times because one or two people didn't read or pay attention. Just focus. It's not like high school, you have to put effort into this.

Getting sick from steel dust is from build up over time, not something immediate.

    thanks man, good info

please clarify what " being released" means and why so long? March 2 2014 is like 7 months from now... thought school car is about 100 days or so

  5. they say DTs take 2 weeks but I got mine back in one.

In the last class there were 50 T/Os and 40 conductors called. they split us up into groups of 10 with 2 TSS per group.

do you mind telling me when did you take your D/T and how long after that they called you for physical? did you make the july class? for me its been around 4 weeks since DT

  6. wow...what is going on here?  where is everybody?

Anyway...I am patiently waiting the call for the physical now....DT done....called Ms.Shivers today but no answer all day....maybe she doesn't work Friday's ???

Quick question...was wondering ...  each classis split in smaller groups , right?  how many ppl per group per TSS???

  7. I came out in March and my xx list number is in the low 50s. I am hoping I will be able to pick into the b division come December. This 2 hour commute is killing me. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

if you don't mind...where are you traveling from? where do u live?

  8. when you come out of school car you are considered extra extra. That means you don't have a regular job or set days off. The crew office assigns you a job a few days in advance. You job is covering those who call out sick, go on vacation, retire ect.. When you don't have a job the crew will assign you a terminal or a central location to report to at a specific time. This is called being on the board. You basically sit there until a job opens up. Someone called out sick last minute, someone gets sent for a random or whatever. If a job doesn't open up which is rare you go home after 8 hours. However if something does open up they can send you anywhere in the division. You can be sitting there for 5 hours then a 10 hour job opens up and you gotta go work that job. Usually if you don't have anything by the 7th hour your good however in theory you could be sitting there for 7 hours and 59 minutes and if they need you, you're going. What do u do while waiting??? can u play a game? read magazines? play cards--lol .... nap??? i mean it is a LONG time to just sit and roll your fingers....will someone else be there with you??? are ALL new T/O extra/extra or just some? how long this lasts? after how long do you get a "regular" job? does that mean you just work the SAME line, SAME shift, SAME RDO's all the time?

It sounds like no one is able to drive to work...must take public transportation since you report at one location but might ending up finishing a job at opposite end of town....is this right???

  9. wait a second here....there supposed to be a july 29th class...what happened to that one???

dagenius69 is right it's road days, but it's also to my understanding that it's 231 road days. Which takes approximately 1 year to get to from hire if working consistently without any extended time off-duty for any reason.

    what's top pay? $$/hour base pay ??

  10. well...as far as I know and I remember being told by someone when I once called for some info....

some people get "cleared" faster than others...simply because their employment history is shorter ( much faster to confirm/check ) ; some people with longer history should take into consideration that some of their previous employers are not around anylonger/business is closed and so much harder to verify....; for some other people they call previous employers and no one answers and they leave a message but no one calls back and so on.

Drug text is valid 90 days...so if you are approaching 75-80 days......BETTER CALL AND ASK WHAT THE HOLD UP IS>>>>they will tell you

You could also call now and say your friend with a higher # than yours was called in but you were not and would like to know why.

From May 8-9 DT...i would wait till mid June and then call and ask....good luck

  11. Does anyone know how many vacation days you get in your first year? I have an overseas flight in October and if I start in the summer I wanted to know if I would be able to get the time off for my October trip for about 5 days....

huhhhh? do you mean if you start school car in the summer 2013 you want 5 days off in Oct.2013????

    Well if that's the case, that's a NO-NO....

I am not 100% sure, but I remember reading something to the extent of you need to work 1 full year before you can take vacation

Soem one correct me if I'm wrong

  12. In my opinion, the perks you get being a PO is great. Plus you get to carry protection legally at all times. As far as pay goes, you may make more in the long run as a PO but it all depends. They are both well paying jobs. You'll start off getting paid more as a Train operator than as a police officer but in the long run I believe Top pay for PO is higher than TO.. They both have promotion opportunities. Both retire at 25/55 under tier 6. Both can be layed off due to budget cuts at anytime. TO is safer of course and less stressful. NYPD is a paramilitary organization so if your not used to getting yelled at or taking crap from people ie: co workers/supervisors and not being able to do anything about I would think twice. If you were in the military then you know the deal already. It's all what you make of it. Remember this is most likely what you will be doing for the rest of your life so its up to you.

    TAKE MTA ANYTIME !!!!!!!!!

  13. Hello, just received my letter (list number 1,000 range)

Salary is only 20.96 dollars an hour on the letter? I thought it was supposed to be $30 an hour.

    Is this perhaps a typo?

Are you sure you are on this list??? 8098 for train OPERATOR and not CONDUCTOR???

T/O starting salary ( beginning 1st day of employment ) is in the $30 range  ( $30.0375 to be exact - see also "SCHOOL CAR EXPERIENCE" thread page 5 for this info ) ...however, T/C hourly rate is in the $20's range

Also...seems wired to have reached a list # in the 1220 range so fast...since only last week 1000 was not reached yet...maybe that's why

    poughkipsee

did not get his/her letter yet !!!!!!

    Just saying....

Any one else with list # over 1000 got letters....???
